humpty doo

happy hump day... am i happy? i don't know. a bit numb at the moment. not sure if the blahs are lurking or if it is just the heat & humidity - daytime temps between 27C & 29C with 80-95% humidity - ugh... it will be over soon enough.

another non-event today - i did 3 hours overtime for the $$$$ factor and had sushi rolls for lunch. if you've come here looking for exciting news and tales of high adventure, i'll apologise now for sending you on your way with a disappointed sigh...

find the sarcasm...

another terribly exciting day in third daughter land... i went to work, i came home, i'm on the net - my life is such a non-stop round of social butterflying...

actually, i had a yummy thai lunch down in chinatown and then went for a few quiet ciders after work with miss e and some other workmates. i even cooked some dinner when i got home and turned the tv on for a while to watch the simpsons. sadly, the new neighbours in flat 11 are playing loud crappy music and singing along badly so i've put the headphones on and disappeared under the wall of sound with my new musical obsession. faker are supporting evermore at the gaelic club on march 18th and the tickets are only $12 - i think i'd better go...

wet wet wet

it has been raining for most of today. great sheets of water with thunder and lightning - i love it. went to visit miss e today for afternoon tea. we drank tea, ate real english jaffa cakes and watched last night's 'rage' which was programmed by the lads from eskimo joe. being a good guest, i took her some lovely frangipanis from the tree in my backyard - it is still there despite the yard being transformed into a carpark...

i'm not stoned...

despite having a medium-sized hangover and not much sleep (check the timestamp on the previous post), i was awake at 7am. i could have slept all day but i had to go back to the medical centre to pick up the pictures of my gizzards... the trip to maroubra and back supersized the hangover to extra-large but some gatorade and a very large coffee soon helped downgrade it back a more manageable level. at least you might be pleased to know that i don't have gallstones... that is the good news... the bad news? i have no idea now what causes the occasional incidents of debilitating pain/nausea that were being blamed on the non-existant stones...

i watched 'fearless' on dvd this afternoon and had forgotten how harrowing the crash scenes were... i'm planning a trip to visit my aunt on the gold coast over easter - i was going to fly but after watching this film, i think i'd rather walk.

happiness

i was blessed to hear two simple words today. miss e said 'i'm happy'... she had bought herself a chinese 'happiness' scroll and hung it up in her bedroom last night - certain small events have happened since that have made her happy. this dear girl has given me my very own happiness scroll which is now hanging above my desk.
these small events make me very happy

yeah, whatever...

many thanks to my visitors for their kind words. i'm feeling much, much better today so i made it back to work. sushi rolls for the lunch and a meeting with one of 'my' employers - a new group that i have taken on. 15 accounts and potentially 3000 members - a bloody huge account. hoping that by getting things set up right from the beginning, there will be less dramas further down the line. i like getting tasks like this to keep me busy.

btw, i managed to make it as far as today without mentioning the worldwide prostration to the shrine of consumerism and overpriced frippery... check this out - beautiful words that resonate much better for me than some distressed floral arrangement and scruffy teddy bear. happy woden's day!

here is something i have not played for a while. i stopped after a rather severe blogslump but still get the emails every week...
Wednesday Whatevers
1. How do accents come about? human nature & evolution - this page gives a perfect explanation - i love it when other people can provide the words that i cannot quite string together
2. Why are certain brands more desirable over others? it is due to the power of the advertising dollar and also to a level of stupidity and a certain sheep-like need to conform that drives most consumers... bring back the individual!!!
3. Why do we use different currencies? for the same reasons we have different accents...

twins

another day spent at home, mostly sleeping - i felt rather pathetic when i woke up so figured it was better to stay in and fight the little germses with some good healthy sleep. i do feel much more betterer and will return to work tomorrow.

my appetite has returned so i decided to make a nice asparagus omelette for my dinner. for the first time in a long, long time there was a double yolk in the first egg i cracked. i buy eggs at the supermarket - they are 'barn-laid' and allegedly chook-friendly. i really don't think i've ever seen a double-yolk in a shop-bought cacklefruit...

i ended up staying home today. my throat is still sore, my ears are hurting and everything still aches. resting and fluids are the order of the day and as you know, my idea of resting entails sitting at my computer, spending way to much time roaming around the interwebthingy...

belated happy birthday wishes to my dear uk friend, mlb. we managed a quick online chat this morning while it was still his birthday.

having spent the last few weekends running around like a lunatic, this one was rather dull. i have not left my flat since getting home friday night. i have slept lots, spent way too much time on the whirled wild whatever and i have not done any housework. in my defence, i have a scratchy sore throat and ache from scalp to toenails... i've been battling this little lurgy for a while and it seems to have won... don't worry, i'm tough and will fight it off soon enough.

ugh, i almost stayed home from work today but i'm too bloody conscientious... my dear friend, miss mg, had her last day at work today - i will miss her lovely smiling face but we will definitely keep in touch. went to the 'chamberlain' hotel for lunch and i was amazed at the restorative powers of a glass of wine! so much so that i ended up at the 'great southern' hotel after work to see if strongbow has the same medicinal properties - yes!!

after an iron-building steak at the 'coach & horses', adam and i decided to have a bowl. the centre was quite packed with a large social group. one person in that group looked very familiar - it was the lovely and divine sam worthington... he was bowling in the lane right next to us! not being a starf*cker, rather than harass him, i just had a nice perv and thought 'cor, what a cutie!!!'. he seems very unaffected and i like that in a person who is in the public eye.

bumper omnibus long weekend special edition...

such a big weekend... yesterday, i forgot to wish miss e happy birthday wishes via my blog but i did it in person and via sms so i'm sure i am forgiven.

i forgot to tell you about the tv show taping thing that i went to on saturday night: the show is called 'stooged'. there are two contestants who have to make their friends believe that they have done something totally not like anything they would normally do. the first contestant, a guy, had to convince his mates he was working as a highly paid, high class male escort and that the husband of one of his clients was after him so he was flying off the philippines with the client for a while. the other, a girl, had to convince her friends that she had taken up amateur boxing and had won the amateur championship and was also working as a bodyguard for the likes of cher... they are provided with all sorts of props in order to convince their friends, i.e. kosta tszyu showing up at the girls apartment with a boxing trophy, a lady from the bodyguard agency turning up not long afterwards and a supposed work contract from cher's company for her and for him, a whole heap of expensive clothes & jewellry allegedly bought for him by the client and a glossy brochure for the escort agency with the guy's picture in it. his story was far more believable and he was the winner on the night. i have to say that the show is a bit silly but it was fun to be there. i'll probably watch it to see what the other 'stooges' were - the show we saw was the 13th and final episode. (does anybody know why most tv shows have a 13 show season???)

sunday night was the shins concert. the support acts were both very good. we've seen 'red riders' twice before and they get better each time - they were great last night. '78 saab' were excellent - i might have to look for their cds. the shins were fabulous, although it was soooo hot in the metro i had to escape just before the encore as i was starting to feel dizzy. out next big musical outings are 'the panics' at newtown rsl on february 18th and then 'bright eyes' in april - sooooo looking forward to both of these!!

now we come to today: being my rostered day off, i had a sleep in until 8.30am - this was totally negated by the fact that i stayed up until 2am talking on the phone to my friend jy... met up with miss e at 10am and we walked down to coogee and had a coffee at the globe cafe. we got the bus back up to randwick and did some grocery shopping. i bought some fresh vegetables and salad stuff as i must start eating properly again. i don't think i have cooked at all this year, unless you count reheating leftovers or toast as cooking...
