arty farty

went off to the art gallery today. i was too cheap to pay for the exhibitions so i just cruised through the public galleries to check out my favourites. afterwards i met my old boss rc and another guy we used to work with for a few quiet drinks at bar 333 and a yummy dinner at wagamama on crown street.

a 6 day which is 60% of the RDDHA. a million billion gazillion bonus points for the cutest little schnoodle that i got to cuddle in the pet shop in centrepoint - i cried because i sooooooo wanted to take him home...

past and present

a very interesting day.

up early and off to bondi junction for a quick shopping expedition then a nice walk with gjc down to coogee for coffee - it was too windy to spend too much time on the seafront but it was a fun catch up. afterwards i went off to the markets at fox studios where i spent way too much money on some more yummy bread, raspberry jam, figs filled with mascarpone cheese, marinated chevre (really soft yummy goats cheese) and some sunflowers - very happy flowers that never fail to make me smile.

i decided to have a night on the couch to reacquaint myself with my tv set. last night i finally managed to tune into the abc through the digital box and there were lots of good shows to watch tonight. my plans were diverted by a phone call from an old friend and ended up drinking coffee, going down to coogee again then drinking some red wine. a reacquaintance of a different kind - it will be very interesting to see what happens from here...

hermit

a totally lazy day today. stayed in bed until 10am, surfed the net, chatted with some boys, did the washing, spoke to miss e, made salmon salad for dinner and now i'm back on the net... tomorrow will be a much more external day. meeting with gjc for the rescheduled coffee down at coogee (the weather is currently doing the right thing, i hope it stays that way...)

a zero day which is 0% of the RDDHA - had i left the house, i may have been a better result. there is always tomorrow!

fresh mountain air

up early to catch the 9.02am train to leura. it was only a four car train and it seemed that every man and his dog was going to the mountains today. by the time my mum joined the train at westmead, i'd had to fight off a million people for the seat next to me that i was saving for her. both leura and katoomba were a bit of a disappointment. there are less and less real local craft shops and more and more shops full of tourist tackiness. the beautiful weather made up for any losses on the shopping front - 19°C with lots of sunshine and big fluffy clouds. mum managed to find a little green depression glass vase and a book of sewing/embroidery stuff in one of the katoomba 2nd hand shops and we got some yummy sourdough bread from the bakery.

up north

another early saturday morning attack of the killer-non-gallstones caused me to sleep in way too late to do anything useful with the day and i ended up getting a much later train to newcastle than planned. the train filled up with people returning from the royal easter show and my privacy was invaded by a rather rude woman with her even ruder sons. they kicked me in the shins and trod on my feet all the way to woy woy while their mother just fed them show bag fodder and ignored their behaviour. i was glad to see the back of them when they got off.

k8's party was quite fun considering i only knew miss e, k8 and their parents (who i've only met once before). plenty of good food, good wine and interesting people. today we went on sightseeing tour of newcastle - i have not been up that way for years and i had forgotten how lovely the beaches are up there. the train trip back was uneventful and i didn't have to share my seat with any rude people!

k8 has very kindly left her old mp3 player in my care while she is overseas (she and her boyfriend have bought themselves an ipod) so i've spent the evening working out how to use this new toy. i have filled it with some of my favourite songs and my discman can take a short holiday.

tomorrow i'm off to leura and katoomba with my mother. i have to be on a bus by 8.15am so i better get off the net and off to bed. goodnight!

a 3 saturday followed by a 21 sunday, which when averaged out is 120% of the RDDHA. yeah!

broken

another sleep-in today. went to the dendy opera quays to see 'enduring love' - not sure if i liked it. the acting seemed a bit stilted in places and there was something about daniel craig that i just didn't like... i think it might be because he played such an a*sehole in 'the mother'...

i have spent most of this evening updating all the broken image links in my archives. it is a long, slow, tedious project but i am determined to fix them all. they are now sorted up the end of june 2004. i'll slowly get them all sorted... i'm to obsessive about it to just leave the broken links there...

off to newcastle tomorrrow. miss e's sister, k8, is off to europe for 12 months (lucky duck) and there is a farewell bbq for her. it will be nice to get out of the city for a while. i'll be back with more on sunday!

cash only

i had big plans for today but managed to sleep in... ah, what the heck, that's what holidays are for. today's big adventure was a trip to the supermarket and greengrocer. being a long weekend and with no stores open on good friday, it was shop today or spend the weekend scrounging in the cupboard and coming up with toast for breakfast, lunch and dinner...

in the supermarket, i had quite a trolleyful as i had run out of all of the basics - soap, shampoo, tp, moisturiser, toothpaste etc. so instead of using the usual express lane, i got into one of the regular checkout lines. only when i produced my amex to pay for it did i find out that it was a 'cash only' checkout. i pointed out that the signs saying so were not terribly obvious, only to be met by a chorus of 'ooh, yes it is' & 'ooh, there it is' from the gaggle of old ladies behind me. eek!! i was so close to letting them know that i had not invited them into a private conversation between myself and the checkout chick - of course that was NOT what i really wanted to say. i was amazed by my calm and that i did not say anything at all...

not again!! another solo day which is 10% of the RDDHA - this one was cute puppy wagging his long tail like crazy so i'm awarding 1000 bonus points...

weather report

bloody hell! today's plans were totally washed out and blown away. the wind last night and today was soooooooooo strong i thought my roof might blow off. match the wind with pouring rain and you are happy when your friends want to cancel plans to meet anywhere that is out of doors. the foodie markets and coogee coffee plans have been rescheduled for next wednesday. i spent to day surfing the net and curled up in bed reading my book (the da vinci code - i'm enjoying it far more than i thought i would. the idea of the sacred feminine/goddess is very appealing and quite believable!)

tonight's plan to see eskimo joe was not cancelled. we got to the club quite early to avoid the rush and had to wait about an hour and a half before being able to enter the auditorium. we went to the downstairs bar and within about 30 seconds some guy sidled up to me and asked if we would like to drink with him. being the scaredy bunny that i am i just smiled and said no thanks and went and hid in a corner. i am so not used to being accosted by strange men, i had no idea what to do... must have been the combination of my new killer 'ere perez almond oil mascara' and the choc-berry lipstick i was wearing (must remember to glam up again next time i go out!) being a smaller venue than usual we actually got to get up close to the stage without being crushed. a great show as usual from one of my favourite bands. the support act, cortez, were really good but i cannot seem to find any reference to them on the whirled wild whatever. hopefully that will change soon, i'd like to see them again. miss e was very happy to get an autograph from eskimo joel at the end of the night. i have not seen her so happy for a long time.

i want my mummy...

i've decided to have a cultural holiday and plan to visit as many museums/art galleries in sydney that i can manage. today's cultural event was 'the australian museum' where they have a very interesting exhibition about 'Life Beyond the Tomb'. gotta get me one of these...
i have been to this museum a million times and today there was something new to me - a very astounding gemstone/mineral exhibit - this gentleman started his collection in a river right near where i grew up. have a look - mother earth is a truly amazing creature.

after leaving the museum, i walked through hyde park and visited the lindt store - just for a look... although i did get some chocolate for a chocoholic friend who i'm meeting up with tomorrow...

speaking of tomorrow, it's going to be a big day!! miss e and i plan to go to the foodie market at fox studios in the morning, then i'm catching up with gjc for coffee down at coogee in the afternoon. the evening will be spent with miss e at souths juniors blissing out to the sounds of our shared obsession, eskimo joe. yeah!!

i think that due to the rain, it has again been a single day which is 10% of the RDDHA. this one doggy got 10000 bonus points for being in a car and while stopped at the lights, the driver gave the lucky dog a big hug.

soapy dwarves

we had end-of-quarter and easter drinks at work last night - free wine is never a good thing. a baby hangover to start my holidays. slept most of the day and then tonight went with miss e, mr and ho to see ross noble - a very, very funny man. i highly recommend that you go see him if he is in your town. i laughed so much that my ears were aching.
