sleepy

got up early, left home at 7am and found a vacant taxi within minutes, just seconds after missing a BUS! we discovered that there were limited bus services available as we were between stops... at least i got to leave work early.

very tired. tried to watch dvd of 'fight club' earlier but nodded off. a very dull day.

good night

ordinary

not a lot to report today. a pretty standard tuesday. 6 dogs. cooked fried rice for dinner - it was pretty ordinary - it's not something i cook often so i had no idea what i was doing and ended up with too much soya sauce.

there is a bus strike tomorrow morning, from 6-9am. miss e and i will leave at 7am and try to get a taxi - please wish us luck... i wish i could go on strike for more money...

i know i should not laugh but i thought this was pretty funny...

still blissing out to duran duran - i'm not sick of it yet!

good night.

rude awakening...

back to the grind today. it was awful having to wake up to the alarm. not a bad day at work, but being the end of financial year, all of the eejits who wait until the last minute to make their payments are at it again... that is the (non) joy of having to get on the phones for two hours to back-up the call centre.

monday madness!

1. Bed & Breakfast or hotel?
for a trip of more than a few days, i'd prefer self-catering type places where you can do your own cooking, washing etc. forced to choose between these two? bed & breakfast.
2. What determines where you stay?(i.e. price, accommodations, transportation, travel package)
all of the above plus who you're travelling with, how long you'll be away, how far you're going, the reason for going...
3. When determining where to stay, do you ever consider the establishment's history? (i.e. it might be haunted, location of high profile crime)
of course!
4. Would such considerations sway your decision?
perhaps if the only room available was in the bates motel...
5. Do you try and read the local paper for where you're visiting, to get an idea of what the area's like?
definitely!

let's go bowling!
83, 145, 140 - not too bad at all. not sure of team points as one of my team, ml, bowled a few weeks in advance and the secretary did not show tonight so we did not know ml's scores.
we got at least two points but it could be more. we should still be on top next week - yippee!!

soundtrack for the last 24hrs:
greatest : duran duran - it's been tooooo long since i've played this so i'm gonna be crazy for a while and listen to it til it makes me sick...

ask me a question, i'll tell you no lies...

i've done this before and it was fun, so i'm doing it again. this time the questions come from nisi.

1. If you could live anywhere in the world you liked, where would that be and why?
it would have to be italy. a beautiful country with great food, great coffee, great wine... what more could a girl ask. one of my 'dreams' is to live in italy and learn the language, culture & history and then do an exam at the university in siena and become an almost honorary italian.
click thumbnail to see siena.click thumbnail to see siena again.

2. How did you come to take up bowling and did you have lessons or are you just a natural talent :-)?
i used to bowl for sport on high school and had the odd social game while growing up. my friend harryo and i often discussed joining a league but never got around to it. ho and i went bowling, just for something to do, on the weekend i moved out of the flat that i had shared with my ex. (the local lanes are about 500m from my place). they were recruiting for a new league that was starting so we decided to go for it. i've never had lessons and i don't think i'm a natural talent, i just chuck the ball and see where it goes. my average has improved only because i have been bowling constantly for nearly four years.

3. What is the best birthday present you have ever received? (other than your new hat of course :-) )
um, that's a hard one... i can't say that any one present has been the best ever. this year's birthday was excellent and my 29th was also a lot of fun. having another birthday each year is a good thing because it means i'm still alive...

4. What was the first album that you ever bought?
the eagles : their greatest hits 1971-1975 or rod stewart : smiler - it was one or the other...

5. Imagine you have 10 grand and a year off, where would you travel? (lets also assume travel is the only option for spending this dosh)
italy (of course), mauritius, ireland & scotland.

if you want to join in the fun, follow these five simple rules:

THE RULES!
1 - Leave a comment, saying you want to be interviewed.
2 - I will respond; I'll ask you five questions.
3 - You'll update your blog with my five questions, and your five answers.
4 - You'll include this explanation.
5 - You'll ask other people five questions when they want to be interviewed.

update on the labour club birthday lucky number draw - i won nothing, nil, nowt... went there with nothing, came away with nothing. i still had fun.

good night!

chicken soup for the soul

a homebody day today. slept in till 10am. did some washing, cooked chicken soup. end of story. well, i surfed the net for a while too, but that is nothing unusual...

i also took my bird cage apart today. the only thing i kept was the bell that hung above the swing - she used to wear it as a hat. i've been talking to my little booboo all week even though she is not there anymore. i even had a chat with her while dismantling her cage. i guess a habit of 12 years is hard to break. i do miss my little budgie.

off to the labour club for a birthday drink with miss e tonight. the club has a lucky number draw for members with a birthday in june. i might win $1000 or $100 - i can only hope - go 217!

enough blethering, i'll mutter instead...

  1. Lounge:: lizard
  2. Photograph:: album
  3. Catacomb:: cave
  4. Crucifix:: catholic
  5. Fire drill:: get out!
  6. Tube:: the tubes
  7. Dropped:: you're...
  8. LTD:: PTY...
  9. Panther:: penrith
  10. Formica:: laminex

sleepy

i had a very quiet friday (recovering from my birthday indulgences) and was asleep by 10pm last night.

i spent today with baby g and her mum. we went to the bonds factory where they had a 25% off sale. afterwards, i bought some fresh vegetables and cooked a yummy dinner of stirfried chicken and veges with thai chili jam - yummo... tomorrow i'm going to make some more chicken soup, just like my nana used to make.

books we read...

a book meme found at nisi's - click here

on a sad note, another family pet is no more. my father's dog, rusty, went to the great barking lot in the sky today. he was a lovely old dog who had good life of nearly 15 years. i'll miss him too.

woo hoo, what a day...

thank you to everyone who left birthday greetings yesterday.

i had a really lovely day. i had lots of phone calls, text messages and emails. i spent some time with baby g and her mum. we did some shopping and i decided to treat myself to some new shoes. when i went to pay for them, baby g's mum insisted on buying them for me. what a girl. we had lunch & a really good coffee at a flash cafe in a funky art gallery place in the middle of an industrial area at waterloo.

last night i had dinner with mr kim at the spanish club. after dinner we walked down george street to 'the rocks' and had a few drinks at the mercantile hotel. we then went to my favourite spot on sydney harbour and looked at the southern cross.

i had a very happy birthday.

premonition...

i think my answer to q5 of sunday's unconcious mutterings was a bit of a premonition... mr kim and i were going to go and see richard clapton, live at the roxy theatre, tomorrow night. i'm very disappointed to report that the show has been cancelled due to illness. bummer. :( that, as they say, is life.

today i had lunch with my dear friend cg. we've not caught up for a while so it was very nice to see her. we had a bite to eat at 'the chili club' and then went to the art shop to check out a calligraphy demonstration.

tonight i went with mrs jane to the final night of her tarot reading class. all of the students bought along a friend and the students read the cards for the guests. i had a lady from chile read mine. she was very nervous as it was the first time she had read for a stranger. her reading had a lot of similar themes to the one mrs jane did just a few weeks ago. the lady from chile is more attuned to past life readings and believes i lived in italy in a previous life - that does not surprise me one little bit!

no soundtrack today, i've been too busy out and about.

good night!

a new hat for an old head...

today i spent the day with my mum. she helped me sort out the mess of my bedroom and then shouted me lunch at subway (yes shirl, sweet onion chicken teriyaki - yum!). she also bought me fresh lavender from her garden and some mandarin jam & cumquat marmalade - looks like toast for breakfast tomorrow. best of all, my very clever mother knitted me a gorgeous hat for winter using variegated purple 'feather' yarn. as soon as i put it on, i just knew that miss e would want one. i called her up and asked her to drop in on her way home from work and i was right, she tried to run out the door with mine. i'm going into the city for lunch with cg tomorrow so i'll get some wool and get mum to make one for her too.

not a lot else to report.

let's go bowling!

um, 114, 149, 109 - not too bad but my team mates all bowled over 190 in the last game... oops... we got 8 points and are still in front! yippee!!

my friend, ho, bought me a few early birthday drinks after bowling. he has uni exams at the end of the week and will be away for the weekend so it's the only chance to catch up this week. thanks!

good night!

hooray for holidays!

thanks to everyone who has said kind words about my little booboo. a google search told me that the average age for pet budgies is 8-10 years so i guess she had a good long life.

i've spent the first day of my holiday just pottering about at home, doing the washing, cleaning the kitchen. it's nice to be a lady of leisure for a few days.

monday madness!

otto says "This week's set of questions are all about you! Have a marvelous week!! =)"

Do you prefer....
1. Long hair or Short hair it's easier to look after.
2. Contacts or Glasses i use both. would prefer neither but am too gutless (and poor) to have laser surgery.
3. Spring or Autumn i love spring flowers.
4. Mittens or Gloves you can't do much with your hands when wearing mittens.
5. Car or Truck/SUV neither, i'm a pedestrian and a passenger.
6. Mac or Windows only because i've never used a mac
7. Cats or Dogs i do like kittycats but my obsession with dogs is well known.
8. Rock or Jazz jazz can be very, very boring.
9. Pen or Pencil both, i'm a stationery slut. let me loose in the stationery supply store and i'll be happy.
10. DVD's or VHS's better features on dvd and you don't have to rewind!

i'll be back later with some bowling scores.

sad sunday...

i am truly blessed to have the very bestest friend in the whole wide world. miss e came over this afternoon and helped me bury my little booboo in the back yard. she bought over some soft tissue paper and some nice purple cellophane to wrap her up with. we dug a hole under the frangipani tree, put some bird seed in the soil and stuck one of the last frangipanis left on the tree in the dirt. the worst part was 10 minutes later when my neighbour, sue, told me that the yard will be dug up next week to put in some car parking spaces and the frangipani tree will probably be removed. i could not bear the thought of the poor wee birdy being unceremoniously dumped like that so we went back down to the yard to dig her up again. sue dug a hole under the other frangipani tree near the fence and we buried poor booboo for the second and last time. i'm crying as i type this but i'll be ok. i will miss my little friend of 12 and a half years. she's been with me through the best and worst bits of my life.

anyway, enough blubbering for now. here are some

fabulous friday!!

yippee!!! i'm on holidays!!! (apart from working overtime tomorrow... $$$$!!!)

an 8 dog day, did not work too hard. starting to settle in nicely to the new job. we had the june birthday celebrations where those of us born in june got to have happy birthday sung to us and we got to blow out some candles, well matches actually, they have run out of candles... we also found out that come december, our office is relocating to the other end of town. right near chinatown, paddy's markets and the capitol theatre - something to look forward to!

happy hump day!

wednesday: 7 dogs, no overtime (only because i could not be bothered...), a letter from my dear friend cg - a kind of chain letter but with a good result - two names and a letter asking me to send a paperback book from my vast collection to the first person on the list. i then remove that name, add mine as the second name and send the letter to six booklovers that i know. if it all works right, i should end up with 36 books to read! i can find six books - i've just dragged two from the shelf already... i want to read them again... ooh, this will be hard... who wants a couple of free books?

the best good news today is that miss e was successful at a job interview she had last week. still in the same company as me but a promotion - you go girl! i'm so proud of you! i got a bit teary when she told me. she will be working more with my new team so that will be fun.

our company social club has a night out tomorrow to see shrek 2 (another free movie, i'm a lucky girl) and i haven't seen shrek yet. tomorrow's birthday girl, miss shell, has lent me her dvd (bless her) so i'm off to watch that now. see ya!

looking after bloggy

just so my wee bloggy does not think i'm ignoring it, i'll do a quick post.

did 3 hrs more overtime tonight. i think i'll do some more tomorrow and leave it at that for this week. i have all of next week off work - yippee!! my birthday present to myself, a mid year holiday. i'm not going anywhere, just hanging about, having fun.

not much else to tell. antonio banderas is going to be on the tele shortly, so i'm off to drool over him...

monday's madness

monday madness!

Happy birthday to you...
Another year older...

People calling with birthday wishes
You don't look your age!

I'm only 21, honestly...

Thank you!
Have a piece of cake!
Do you think i should start acting my age?
Another pair of socks? just what i needed!
Yes please, i'd love another glass of champagne!

mmm... i wonder what the penalty for bloggy neglect is...

hello. i'm back from wherever. my poor wee bloggy is feeling very unloved. i guess i will have to post a jumbo bumper super-sized issue today, just to let her know that she is still my favourite pet.

where do i start?

friday: a good day. had lunch with rc, my old manager. it was great to catch up with him now that he has returned to sydney after his south of the border exile. the lucky bugger is off on a 5 month jaunt around the world on july 12th. i worked more overtime then came home and chatted with mr kim.

saturday: spent the day with mrs jane. we had breakfast at the zellini's then went to beastgardens for a spot of shopping. i was very restrained and only bought a nice pinky/purple jumper, a black tee shirt and some magnesium tablets (they help me sleep and i ran out about 2 weeks ago. i can really feel the difference when i don't take them). we then came back to my house and jane read the tarot cards for me. she has recently done a course and the reading was very interesting. we had some lunch at subway then had a wander around the village shopping centre. i had a wee nap on the couch after jane left then after pottering around for a while, i settled back on the couch to watch 'once were warriors' on dvd but the phone rang - it was mr kim. i spent the rest of the evening chatting with him.

sunday: up early to go to fox studios with miss e to see 'the day after tomorrow'. we used my freebie double pass that filmink magazine sent as a birthday gift in the lastest issue. a very cheesy film, with the full-on disaster movie formula firmly in place, but we enjoyed it anyway. our enjoyment was upgraged by the fact that jake gyllenhaal is sooo cute. sunday evening was spent in the company of mr kim. we had a long weekend movie marathon and starting at about 6.30pm we managed to get through 'blazing saddles', 'taxi driver', 'crackerjack', 'high fidelity' (which i managed to sleep through 95% of) and 'a clockwork orange' (which kim slept through entirely and i slept through about half of it.) i was under the impression that this film had been banned from being broadcast in the uk, but this webpage tells a different story! even so, if it had been banned, it would not surprise me. the last movie credits rolled at about 4.00am so i think we did rather well.
talking about sunday, it must be time for
  1. Colourblind:: richard pleasance
  2. Shallow:: end of the genepool
  3. Erotica:: fiction
  4. Figment:: of my imagination
  5. Eviction:: big brother
  6. Composed:: relaxed
  7. Chill:: champagne
  8. Girl:: everything but the...
  9. California:: ucla
  10. Bond:: age

sleeping overtime...

had to have an early night last night. two twelve hour days took all my energy - i'm such a wimp! despite the early night, i had to have an extra 45 minutes sleep in this morning. i decided to forgo the extra $$$$ tonight in order to get some more sleep.

choose day

today i chose to be happy. it really makes a difference. i could feel the blahs creeping up and i've sent them packing.

this week will be a long one. i've signed on to do at least 3hrs overtime every night. 12 hour days means tired susan so if there is not much on the blogging front, don't be too worried. i'll be back.

today i moved desks at last. it is very weird and quite a culture shock. i had become very accustomed to my little hidey hole corner desk where i could see out into the world with the window behind me. now i face the window and being in a more open plan area, my back is exposed to the world. luckily i'm too busy learning new stuff at the moment to worry too much about it.

today's happiness:
lunch with miss em (tinged with a bit of sadness as she is leaving tomorrow to return to caring for her little boy)
good music
good friends (quick catchups with jules, tim, mlb and mrs jane today)
phone chat with mr kim

today's soundtrack:
diamond mine : richard clapton - my new obsession (obsession just happens to be the first track on the album and it is my favourite!)

a day for myself

had a nice sleep in until 9am this morning. gee, you gotta love a free day off, especially a monday! did the housework (well, most of it - the hoovering can be done anytime...) went off to see a movie at the ritz this afternoon. 'the cooler' - it is very good. william h. macy is such a great actor and it's good to see him get some love scenes. i'm half in love with him now. also saw a preview for 'the ladykillers'. i love the coen brothers' movies, so i'm looking forward to seeing this one.

anyway, im off to bowl now. monday madness and bowling scores will be posted later.

does this work??

as you can see, i did not go to bed. i've been blogtweaking. i've removed trackback as nobody ever used it and i never did work out what it did... i've rearranged my blogroll slightly and have added this blogmail thing... i guess if this works, we'll all see it here!

another day of nowt...

another one of those days where i have slept more than i've been awake. i guess if i did not need the sleep, my body would not tell me it is tired. i'm going through some mental processing that is causing this lethargy and blah feeling. let's leave it there.

it is now 10pm and i'm off for an early night. looks like my rostered day off will be spent doing the housework i intended to do yesterday... at least i have that luxury!

today i am thankful for my heater, my friends, good music, kimchat, timchat and rostered days off.

astounding

eskimo joe were totally and absolutely awesome!! despite some technical hitches they had the crowd rocking along and wanting more. betchadupa were excellent. the avenues were pretty good too. what a great night. i'm feeling a little deaf but just had to listen to my eskimo joe cd one more time before going to bed.

miss shell was going to meet some friends at the colombian hotel, so miss e and i walked up oxford street with her. we went via hyde park where we saw a rat and a cute little possum. miss shell took some photos of the bands and the possum with her phone-cam so i am going to get her to email them to me and will post them here somewhere soon.

anyway, i'm off to sleep. might go with miss e to see 'the day after tomorrow', tomorrow and i need to get my housework done.

lazy susan

i have a rostered day off on monday - yeah!! a long weekend, so today i am taking the opportunity to be as lazy as possible and will resume my weekend tomorrow... i slept until 8.30am, went back to bed for a wee nap at 10.30am, got up again at 12.30pm. i'm now ricocheting aimlessly around the world wide whatever and enjoying myself immensely.

my soundtrack today is 'a song is a city' by eskimo joe. i'm going to see them play live tonight at the metro. i had totally forgotten about this until miss e reminded me yesterday. one of the support bands is 'betchadupa' - neil finn's son is in this band so with that sort of musical heritage, hopefully they should be pretty damned fine. the other support is 'the avenues' who, like 'eskimo joe' and 'the panics', are from perth. western oz is producing good music so i'm sure 'the avenues' will uphold the reputation.

if you don't see me hanging around the net tonight, you know i'm out having fun!

sleepy

was up until 2am, on the phone to mr kim. have spent friday night having a nap on the couch. what a hectic social life i lead.

a 9 dog friday. it took 50 minutes to get to work this morning - on an express bus!! the olympic torch returned to sydney this morning and some wally decided it would be a good idea to have it come through the city at about 8am. the eastern distributor was closed and the traffic in the city was chaos. i suppose better late than never. the torch returned to the city this afternoon, on it's way back to the olympic stadium at homebush. we watched from the office window as raylene boyle passed it on to some unknown man. it was nice to see it this time around. the sydney 2000 olympics was a time of grief, hate & anger for me. i was moving on from a very difficult period in my life. despite it being all around me i did not see very much of it. i'm glad that 4 years on, i'm in a better place.

today's soundtrack? just the voices in my head and any snoring i may have done while having a nap... and now i'm off to bed. an early night will never do me any harm!

the new job is going well. lots of new stuff to learn. have had to do the occasional phone thing as backup for the call centre but 95% of day without headphone is better than 100% with! i will move desks tomorrow and 'yippee' - i have another window desk. the seating fairy is looking after me! it will be fun cleaning up all the junk my poor desk has accumulated...

and now for some thursday thankfuls:
great friends
a new job to explore
lovely winter weather
a long weekend coming up

soundtrack of the last few days:
last broadcast : doves
lost souls : doves
a song is a city : eskimo joe

a pinch and a punch...

...first day of the month and first day of my new job. a fun day with not a headphone in sight! 2 meetings, one with krispy kreme donuts. my new manager has put me down for the luxury of a rostered day off next monday - not possible in the call centre as monday was always our busiest day. i was not going to have an rdo this month as i have a week off at the end of june and there is public holiday on the 14th, meaning having to make up the extra time over less days. we've worked out a nice roster that will allow me to make up the time over the whole month so i'll get 2 long weekends in a row followed by an even longer weekend when i have my wee holiday! i'm loving it already.

my first 10 dog week day in ages, grooving out to 'last broadcast' and 'lost souls' by doves. they could become a new obsession. home made thai beef salad for dinner, chatting with mr kim, happy susan.

good night.
