TV Tuesday!!

Stop me if you've heard this one...
Comedy Central unveiled it's list of the 100 Greatest Stand-Up Comedians of All Time last week. (The list was quite subjective, I don't know who voted, no one asked me.) But it was a fun series of shows to watch. They are replaying it endlessly if you'd like to catch it. You can view their list here, if you'd like some help coming up with names for this week's questions!

1. Who is your favorite stand-up comedian of all time? stephen wright - a very funny man.
2. Which one could you do without? (Not your type of humor, or just plain stupid!) kevin bloody wilson - too obscene, even for me...
3. Which comedian do you think has gone on to have a great career aside from doing stand-up? jim carrey. i prefer him as a serious actor (truman show, the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind). he should ditch the comedy movie roles.

~Bonus~ If you went to a comedy club on amateur night, and they gave you some jokes and a microphone, would you go onstage? simple, NO!

Thanks for playing - you are one wild and crazy guy!!!

monday moan

i've learnt a lesson today. if you volunteer for overtime on a public holiday, volunteer for a later start than 8.00am. i got to the bus stop at 7.00 on the dot thinking i had plenty of time. i had missed the 6.58 bus and the next city bus? 7.28 - doh! sunday timetable! i ended up getting a bus to the other end of town (nowhere near where i needed to be) and got the train down to wynyard. i had time to pick up a nice hot coffee and was logged in and ready to roar by my rostered start time!

there is another lesson that needs to be learnt by certain others but apparently it's not happening! it is 'that' time of year again - the end of the march quarter has been and gone & our employer customers must have their employees contributions into the fund by close of business on the 28th of this month or they face hefty fines from the taxman. they are responsible for making payments on time, yet they believe we should bend the rules for them, just because they are too lazy to do something about it until the last minute. two more days of this - it's going to be rough.

enough with the moaning, here is this week's monday madness!

a little bit potty

made it home, sober, by 10pm last night. i was way too tired so did not feel like drinking too much and was having a hard time staying awake. i was asleep by 11pm and slept through until 8am. by 10am, i was having a wee nap on the couch until i was woken by a phone call from mr kim at 11.30.

during my nap, i had some really weird dreams. the one i was in when i woke up was very strange. i was at a 'monkees' concert with my sister and her husband. the band was crap. the sound was not loud enough for us to hear (we were seated with the angels at the point highest from the action). after the show i became lost from my sister & brother-in-law. i knew that to find them i would have to get a lift going in a downwards direction. there were two lifts but they both only appeared to be going up. when the ones that were going down did stop, they were chock-a-block full of people dressed like mother teresa. when i finally did get into a lift that was going down, it did not stop, it just kept plummeting down too fast and that's when the phone rang. i'm sure there is some sort of hidden meaning but i'll be buggered if i can work it out. any one out there who wants to have a go at interpreting it is welcome to leave a comment!

today is anzac day and being the land of the long weekend, tomorrow is a public holiday. victoria & tassie will not be having the holiday so i have volunteered to work. being paid double time & a half is the best temptation to give up a day off.

this afternoon after going to the supermarket, i went for a walk down to coogee and along the beach. i so wish that i had a digital camera. the sunset was the most beautiful i have ever seen. bands of pale blue & pale pink topped by a sky the colour of cream. the walk yielded a total of 19 dog sightings so i'm a happy girl.

i did not have my trusty pedometer with me to tell me how many steps i had taken. it is out of action after a slight 'water-logging' incident yesterday. without going into too much detail, let me just say that while adjusting my clothes after answering a call of nature, the pedometer became detached from it's position on my waistband and went for a little swim... if i can accurately guess what you are thinking now, i will say two words: DONT ASK!

red head

just a quick post while i let the colour go to my head... today i had my hair cut back to short (chin level) and it looks sooooo much nicer. it has been 8 months since i've had it cut. much too long and straggly. nice and short and straight again now. i've also given up on growing old gracefully. i've just put loreal pure ruby power through my hair. the bathroom looks like a massacre has occurred. this stuff is RED!! the little colour booster tube had a leak so i have red stains all over my hands - eek! i thought i had busted an artery or something... i'm sure the marks will fade.

had brunch with miss e after my haircut and then another coffee this afternoon with my friend matt who travelled to this side of the pond to get coffee grinder for his whizzbang espresso machine. i know i harp on about it, but i am a lucky girl who has some lovely friends.

anyway, i'm off to a surprise birthday party tonight so may be in no fit state to blog when/if i get home... everytime i go to this person's house, i get smashed... to make matters worse, i've had about 4 hours sleep after staying up until 5am chatting with mr kim... i think i will end up having an early night.

see ya later!

eek!! i got it!!!

i have a new job!!! yeah me!!! it was a bit of a one horse race. there had been external applications but i know the system and already know the basics of the job so they don't need to train me as much. even so, i'm very pleased with myself! no more late shifts (unless it's overtime) and no more being chained to my desk by my headset!! i will start as soon as they are able to find someone to fill my position in the call centre. i have not been able to wipe the dumb grin off my face all day!

apart from the obvious, another good day. more timchat, currently engaged in kimchat, 5 dogs. happy susan.

i think thursday is the most boring day of the week. not quite the new weekend but too far from the last. i've checked some old thursday blogposts and they often have nothing to say! i must find a thursday thing so i can have something to post...

anyway, it was a decent enough day. i have nowt to complain about. timchat, kimchat, only 1 dog but i know there are plenty more out there, a very quiet night at work, a new cd to howl along to : franz ferdinand - a scottish band - check them out!

late shift blues

i don't think i like a week of late shifts. it is very tiring and confusing. i keep saying 'good morning' when it is 3pm... oh well, mustn't grumble, i get to sleep in... if only i could go to bed earlier...

i went to the post office today as i had two parcels to pick up. one was my john william waterhouse calendars that i ordered from here - beautiful. the other was a box of goodies from my mother. a big bag of teabags (she gets them in bulk and keeps me supplied), a cdrom of 1000 crosswords from 'the times', a picture of my sister's 3 kids and a 'violet crumble' bag from the easter show! must be careful not to eat it all in one day!

despite the tiredness i've had a good day. timchat, kimchat, pretty new calendars to look at.

Just the facts, m'am…

Whether it was Barney Fife with one bullet in his pocket, or Lt. Columbo's "Just one more thing…", we could be sure in the old days that TV cops would wrap everything up neatly in 30 to 60 minutes. These days it may take a few episodes, but TV's top cops still manage to right most of the world's wrongs.

1. Who is your favorite (past or present) TV cop? frank drebbin
2. Which TV cop do you think was the most crooked, or the most inept? um, frank drebbin
3. Which TV show had the best ensemble cast of police officers? the bill

~Bonus~ You need to hire a bodyguard for yourself. Which TV cop do you choose? does a movie cop count?? detective giovanni malloy from 'in the cut' played by the very cute mark ruffalo...

sunday silliness

let's go bowling!

i bowled early this week as i have a week of late shifts - woo hoo!! a sleep in every day (except tuesday because i've swapped with ts for her wednesday late next week so that she can play in her darts comp...) anyway, back to bowling - it was pretty miserable - 115,122,111 - with an average of 119, i could have done better. shell bowled with me. i have not seen her since before easter as she has been on holidays. she had her tongue pierced while in byron bay for the east coast blues festival. she is a brave girl. her tongue is still swollen and her speech is a bit thick - it sounds like she has just been to the dentist.

i've borrowed this from bryn's celestial offerings. it is a variation of one of the recent 23 questions that appears a few posts down the page.

Musical Meme

1.) Go to your CD rack/shelf/room    done...
2.) Select the 13th CD from the end of your collection
sarah mclachlan : touch
[natalie merchant : tigerlily]
3.) What's the 5th track?
touch
[carnival]
4.) List it on your blog, with a story of why you purchased this CD
i am obsessed with sarah mclachan. she is touring here in june or july and the tickets are way over my ability to afford. i can always use a positive mental attitude to conjure up the money for the ticket!! i have not played her for a while... guess what will be on today's soundtrack...
[because i loved carnival when i first heard it and had to have it]
5.) Link back to me - if you wish    done...

(i actually misread the question the first time and took out the [13th cd] from the beginning. i put that on here as well. another cd for the soundtrack...)

i found this over at the other side.

i want anyone who reads this to ask me 3 questions, no more no less. ask me anything you want. (use the comments box for you questions. i will answer them there also.) then i want you to go to your journal/blog, copy and paste this allowing your friends (including myself) to ask you anything. i will answer all questions but only if you have put this up on your own site... if you get too personal, i reserve my right to tell you to bugger off...

i've just been to see 'elephant' with miss e. bloody heck, what a brutal movie. there is minimal dialogue. it shows the same story from many different viewpoints, that converge to a scary and shocking end. some may find it boring as not a lot really happens for the first hour. the last 15 minutes left me mute and feeling sick. i cannot say much more about it.

sunny saturday

for the last few weeks i've had a craving to walk down to centennial park and lie in the sun, watching the world go by. today was the day. i passed the crowds on their way to the horse races at royal randwick - glad i wasn't going there! there was a lovely breeze blowing. the sun was shining (30°C here today - bloody hot for april!), lots of people out and about enjoying the fine weather. found a nice spot to sit and listened to my discman and read my book, looking up every now and then to check out the young men playing frisbee nearby - i cannot help my wandering eye 8)

all in all, a fine saturday filled with timchat, kimchat, fresh air and sunshine, good music, good reading. what more could a girl ask for??

today's soundtrack:
elemental : tears for fears
short note : matt finish (twice) [make that three times]

son of evil reindeer : reindeer section

EDIT: i forgot to mention that in the interests of economics i have disconnected my cable tv subscription. considering that the tv is mostly only on for background noise, i could not justify the expense of cable. sadly, there is no external aerial in my building so the reception of the terrestrial channels is almost non existent. miss e came over this afternoon and helped me hook up a set top aerial that my friend ho has lent to me. the reception is improved slightly but have to keep readjusting the 'bunny ears' on the aerial... so, having reconnected, i've just remembered that i found this over at easybake coven... i will try to succeed at this, but cannot make any promises!! i can add another item to todays list of good things - a visit from miss e.

pizza friday

another very quiet one at work today. things have settled down nicely and hopefully this will continue for a while.

miss e and i walked down to coogee again tonight. my pedometer reading for the day was 10867. it is a very good motivator to get walking. we kind of undid our good work by getting pizza and a bottle of wine for dinner. in our defence i can say that the pizzas at mille lire are divine and they don't put truckloads of cheese all over them and the base is always thin and perfect. there is more of the good stuff on the pizza than cheese - we had roasted vegetables and fetta - yum!!!! we also had the combo pizza bread - the same base as the pizza with a smattering of the best tomato sauce, herbs, chili, garlic and the tiniest sprinkle of cheese - perfecto!!!

well i didn't win anything tangible but i'm a winner anyway. i have lovely friends and a life that i should not complain about. the day started with a quick timchat, work was ok - not too stressful, went to bingo with mrs jane tonight - we won nowt but it was fun and great to catch up. it is her birthday tomorrow so i give her a little present of some lovely incense and a nice tile to burn it on. the incense kit was so nice, i bought one for myself. currently burning lavender incense and engaged in kimchat, so the day will end nicely too.

double decker dog day!!

woohoo!!! a gobsmacking 30 dog day!!!! the count was at 11 when i got home from work but i went for a walk down to coogee and along the beach, perfect dog spotting territory. lots of lucky dogs were out having walkies and i was in heaven. i know it's sad that the more dogs i see, the happier i am but it's my life, my games, my rules. my pedometer tells me that i have done 9305 steps today. i'm not sure about it's accuracy but at least i can get a vague idea of where i'm going or is it where i've been...

i had a call from my old boss (and friend) rc today. i was thinking of him just the other day and thought i must call him. he got in first! he has been working down in melbourne for the last 12 months but hopes to be home soon. he is coming up to sydney on the last weekend in april for his birthday so i'm looking forward to catching up with him then.

it has been another good day. i told myself again this morning that i would have a good day and it appears to have worked.

and now it's time for TV Tuesday!!

thanks isabella
quiz shows are my favourite!
lock it in eddie!

Is That Your Final Answer?
Game Shows have kept us playing along for years… From What's My Line? to Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, we watch, yell at stupid contestants and generally feel superior, because we could be doing so much better! So let's see, do you have what it takes to play the game, or are you the Weakest Link?

1.) Is there a game show (past or present) you think you would do really well on, as a contestant? sale of the century
2.) Is there a game show you think is the stupidest thing you've ever seen? the price is right
3.) Is there a game show you watch, but don't like to admit to watching? (A guilty pleasure!) this one... it seems to have been cancelled again as it's not been on lately. the replacement show, deal or no deal, is a lot of fun.

~Bonus~
Who is your favorite game show host? cornelia francis from the weakest link - i know it was all an act but she was very good at her job. i auditioned for the weakest link and got through but the show was cancelled shortly afterwards. 8(
Who is your least favorite? i have to say larry emdur from the price is right. eddie maguire from wwtbam runs a close 2nd. he has improved a lot but he is still pretty painful.

Thanks for playing! Now let's see what's behind curtain #3!

the eternal confusion of the tortured mind...

had another nice sleep in today. cruised my favourite blogs and then cooked my favourite indulgent breakfast - eggs poached in tomatoes and basil. yummmmmy!!!

using my filmink freeby for the month, i went with miss e to see 'the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind'. a great film but i will have to see it again to try to make some sense and to recapture bits i can't quite get my head around. jim carrey should forget the comedy and stick to 'serious' acting - he is excellent and kate winslet is excellent as always.

again today i am thankful for good friends and the blessings i seem to be inundated with lately. i'll continue to send out wishes of luck and happiness to the universe. grab a handful - i've got plenty.

mumble, mutter, uh - what was that?

a big day. awake at 6.20am with a mild attack of the killer gallstones that did not require medication, just a walk around the flat and lots more sleep. slept till 9.56am when i jumped out of bed in a panic as miss e & k8 were visiting at 10.30am... got ready in record time. we set off into town to do a spot of shopping before putting k8 on the train home. i managed to spend way more money than i should have. a pedometer to try to record my daily activity (and perhaps encourage myself to do more...), a bottle of gloria (with a bonus bottle of skin lotion and a free watch [very tacky with a bunch of cubic zirconia highlights] does anybody want it?? it's yours for the asking...) and some goodies from 'treats from home', a store that sells british snacky things for homesick poms and those who have a yen for all things british. miss e was like a kid in a candy store - i think we'll visit that store again and soon.

i have to ask, does anybody in the real world really buy designer label clothes. i had to leave the david jones store for fear that my negative reaction to the outrageousness of the items and prices of these 'designer' threads would make me physically ill and make me lose my breakfast. the crap they pass off as 'fashion' astounded me and the prices amazed me. a cardigan that looked like it had been hand knitted by your dear old nanna - $700, a simple lined black corduroy jacket - $750, a denim jacket with a few titzy bitzy decorative touches - $900, a jumper that looked like it had been made by your slightly dotty maiden aunt - $329 and worst of all, a vile 'vintage' tartan skirt & shirt ensemble that needed a good iron (but was meant to be scrunched) with unfinished edges and ragged bits all over - $675 for the two pieces. i'll shut up on this subject now but if you're wearing designer label clothes as you read this, please come back when you're wearing something more suitable.

anyway, back to the fun. managed some quality timchat and kimchat again today, saw 9 dogs and had sushi rolls for lunch so i'm still a happy girl.

good night.

happy bunny!

another good day. a nice long sleep in til 9.10am (apologies to my US visitors - here in oz we get a 4 day weekend for easter - no work til tuesday!!). the morning was spent on timchat and kimchat then did housework in the afternoon. the cds are all back in the rack and you can actually see the dining table again!! i have hung my happy bunny painting over the dining table so it will be the first thing i see when i enter the loungeroom each day.

went over the road for dinner with miss e & k8 - hommus with carrot sticks, chips and crackers followed by cheese on toast and finished off with ice cream from sugarplum - yum... we were going to have risotto for dinner but after polishing off a bottle of champagne and some mardarin napoleon it was decided that cooking was too much effort.

still have 3 days left to relax - i might even make a start on the spare (junk) room... it's nice to have a neat and tidy home on a friday night - more time to have fun on the weekend!

sending out lotsa luck and happiness to my friends and visitors. i've got plenty to share!

goodnight!

p.s. i've gone back to warbling along to my cd's - you can always tell when the mood is up...
today's playlist:
short note : matt finish - a great aussie album from the 80's. i bought it online last week and it arrived yesterday. have now played it 6 times and i still love it! had forgotten how great it is. it's such a shame that matt moffitt died last year.
son of evil reindeer : reindeer section - also played this over at miss e's again tonight.
substance (disc1) : new order - ah, the oldest and strongest musical obsession, played (and howled along to) very loud while i was in the shower. i hope the neighbours enjoyed it as much as i did...

the luck continues...

after the good result from making a positive decision to win the easter basket yesterday, when i woke up this morning i said out loud "i'm going to have a good day today!", and it worked!

the good things:
a quick chat with colorado tim before work.
i spent the first hour at work moving back to my downstairs desk. my window view has been restored!
what was left of the morning was spent showing the spreadsheet expert most of the stuff about the statistics.
we feasted on hot cross buns during the april birthday celebration.
this was followed by an easter egg hunt.
i got my bunny drawing from the boy who makes my coffee.
found 'fabulous baker boys' dvd for $9.95 at video sleazy... i know what i'm watching this weekend...
had dinner at the labour club with miss e & her little sister k8.
won a $25 voucher in the monster raffle - still no monsters in the prize list!!
won $30 on the poker machines.
had a very funny chat with mlb in london - he is such a funny man.
an email from my friend matt inviting me over for coffee - he has just bought himself a very flash espresso coffee machine.

again, i am a lucky, lucky girl.

before i go, i'd just like to send happy easter wishes to all my friends and visitors. have a great weekend!

HAPPY EASTER!

winners are grinners...

and i'm grinning from ear to ear after winning a lovely basket of easter treats at work today... a nice basket filled with darrell lea eggs in all sizes, a box of chocs, a honeycomb filled egg (my favourite!!) and chocolate bunny... i told myself i would win it and nearly died of shock when i was told that i had indeed won!!! i have shared the eggs with my workmates and kept the bunny, honeycomb and box of chocs for me...

had a flu vaccination at work today - the company provides it free in the hope it will stop us all from getting sick and taking time off... my arm is a bit sore but the actual injection didn't hurt a bit. the nice nurse gave us a lollypop and a little bag of goodies as well... a nice day for getting things for nothing!!

tonight was the night i made some long overdue phone calls. i called my mother and we had a good chat about nothing much. i called mrs jane who has not been well, but is on the mend and i spoke to my friends fluffy and lizzy in brissy. it has been way tooooo long since we've had contact. they still love me and miss me and i love and miss them. am going to try and organise a trip up there soon. jetstar have tickets for $29 one way - for $58 return, i'm game!

as a bonus, on top of all the other good things, it was a 13 dog day. i'm a very lucky girl...

clearing the backblog

today is a new day that i have created for my own purposes, montuesday...

not a bad week at work. have been off the phones, catching up on the call centre statistics. all up to date!! apparently one of the new girls is some sort of spreadsheet/database queen and will be able to automate it all and produce a 17 page report with the press of a button... lol... i'm waiting to see that...

no bowling this week, did not feel well enough to be chucking an 11lb ball around for 2 or 3 hours. don't ask why, you don't want to know... i was in a painkiller induced sleep on the couch by 8pm...

tonight i had a 26 year old man (boy?) contact me via my yahoo profile. i don't know why this happens, but sometimes it does. we had a chat for a bit and will probably chat again. maybe my profile has some hidden message that translates as 'has a thing for young men'... (i like men. of all ages...) whatever, he was fun to chat to. nowt wrong with that.

i've also been chatting with the colorado tim, london mlb, eg in nz, kb here in sydney, kd in the uk and south carolina ray in the last 24 hours. so many man, so little time...

monday madness!

1.) What makes your country special?
it's location, the native flora and fauna, pretty much everything
2.) What makes your hometown special?
where i grew up - um, nothing. sydney itself, it's just the best!
3.) What makes your neighbourhood special?
it is close to the city and i just love living here. one of my dearest friends lives just across the road.
4.) And your loved ones - what is it about them???
they are special because i have chosen to have them in my life and they have chosen me.
5.) And finally you - what is it that is unique about you...???
me! there is nobody else on the planet like me...

TV Tuesday!!

Executive Decisions

The Networks are getting ready to announce their new fall schedules. Imagine what would happen if you could play programmer for one day!

2.) What show(s) would you cancel without a moment's hesitation?
most reality shows, soap operas
3.) Is there a show (previously cancelled or just no longer airing) that you'd bring back, original cast and all?

big weekend

was just too tired to blog yesterday. a late night on friday - home about half midnight, talking online to london mlb and colorado tim until 2am. woken up early by a phone call from eg in nz. off to see doc about blood test results. all good - cholesterol mostly good (down from last time!), blood sugar is fine, iron is the usual borderline anaemic (but better than last time) and liver function normal - woo hoo!

caught bus into city to catch 11:30 ferry to manly. jet cats running instead due to some ferries being out of service so got there early. sat on the wharf doing a bit of people watching until jules picked me up. because parking was a nightmare, we went to warringah mall for lunch. it was soooo good to catch up with her. despite her career success, she is the same girl i used to share a house with 20 odd years ago. it was like we had seen each other just last week. we went to her house where i met her husband. we pored over some old photo albums which was a hoot and talked about all the people, places then, now and all the stuff in between. i managed to get a ferry back to the city. it is always very relaxing to watch the water and drift along with the movement of the ferry. i got home at 7pm and after a quick blog cruise had to have a nap. again, the cheeky eg called from nz and woke me up. we ended up talking for nearly 4 hours until 1am.

a repeat performance today - another late night followed by another early morning wake up call from eg - he wanted to make sure i got up in time, seeing as how he kept me up late last night - glad it's his phone bill but i kinda like the constant contact. picked up at 7am by baby g and her parents and went off to kings cross to have a belated birthday breakfast with mr h at uliveto's. the service was a bit shabby today, but the food and more importantly, the coffee, were very good.

enough for now. i'm off to do the washing then going for a walk down to coogee in the rain.

more later!

busy girl...

too busy sleeping last night. have to mention that i ran into baby g and her parents on the way home from the supermarket last night. that child just gets more and more beautiful each time i see her. i'm having breakfast with them on sunday morning. yeah!

too busy drinking and perving on young men in bands tonight. if you live in australia and the morning after girls are playing near you, you really should go see them. they are fabulous. i fear i may become mildly obsessed. the first support band, the substitutes, were very good but the second band, whose name i don't care to recall, were very boring - they made me want to neck myself - boring, droning shoewatchers. miss e and i have made it our mission to see 3 bands for $10 or less as often as possible. only one band of the three is allowed to be boring and ordinary, the other 2 must be good and/or excellent. so far, we've scored 2 out of 2. i've left it a bit late to become a rock chick, but i've just rediscovered how much i like live, loud music. is this some sort of 2nd teenage life?

meeting my old housemate, jc, tomorrow - will get the ferry across to manly - just the thing to do on a fine saturday.

good night!

Friday, April 02, 2004

oops...

...no thursday post - i fell asleep on the couch at about 9pm and woke up at 1am when i staggered of to bed and slept until 6am. the late nights eventually do catch up with me.

more later. off the see the 'morning after girls' again tonight. looking forward to that!
