a very lovely day today

had a nice sleep in until 8.30am. my friend jen called just before 11 to say she was in the area, so met up with her for coffee and lunch at the vietnamese noodle bar. her 15 month old son, jj, is soooo gorgeous - i want one too!! he has inherited his parent's 'foody' lifestyle already and one of his favourite words is 'yum'. i'm sure he'll be a master chef by the age of 5. it was very lovely to catch up with jen and little jj. her hubby j is also doing well with a whole bunch of new business ventures. i've not seen enough of this family of treasures lately, so i hope to see more of them this year.

later on, i met up with miss e in the city to see 'mystic river' at last. what a disappointment! i got bored and had a wee nap somewhere in the middle... after all the anticipation, this film was nowhere near as good as the hype suggests...

had another lovely long phone chat with eg in nz tonight. again, the conversation just gets more and more interesting.

i'm declaring today a personal thanksgiving day - i'm very lucky to have these fabulous friends in my life.

i found this idea at shirl's (via ferrolad) and decided to give it a whirl myself... i entered my wee bloggy in the google search bar like this 'related:3rddaughter.blogspot.com' and got 28 results. mostly other blogs but the most interesting was the last one... like i need this... ha ha ha...

enough laughter, now it's time for some

i'm off to sleep now. see you tomorrow...

oops, i forgot...

to do a proper post yesterday... things are happening that have muddled my mind a bit... let's leave it at that.

i didn't end up going to the market research. i discovered i could leave home really early and get there with 45 wasted minutes to spare or leave home 30 minutes later and get there 30 minutes late... i also would have had to spend $15 on bus fares as the place i was going to is outside of the range of my yearly ticket. decided it was pointless.

and this funky clock (ho, if you are reading this, i think you will like the clock...)

what fun...

found this at shirl's. i've been a big fan of this guy's work since i first saw his instructional dance lessons about 2 years ago... funny, funny man...

here is my effort...

i'm a star!

um...

i missed my midnight deadline for friday's post because i spent 4.5 hours on the phone to my friend eg in nz... our conversations become more & more interesting.

i got the bus to work with miss e this morning - she makes me laugh which is always a bonus. spending time and sharing a laugh with a good friend is such a lovely way to start the day.

my treasure chest is bursting at the seams but luckily there is always space for new treasures.

tomorrow i'm off for more market research ($45 to answer questions about my toilet paper and soap buying habits - easy money!) i have to try and find out exactly where it is that i have to go... thanks to maporama, it should not be too difficult... now if i can just work out what bus to get, i'll be able to get there without getting lost...

i'll tumble for ya mkII

cast your mind back to the 10th of october... i've done it again but not quite so spectacularly. miss e and i decided to go the the labor club for a quiet drink after work. just as we were walking down the hill nearby, i did the windmill thing and hit the concrete... no bruise yet, but i'm sure there will be tomorrow (and this one wont be allowed to take over my wee bloggy). some nice grazes on my elbow, wrist and palm. once again, the ego suffered the most damage. it didn't stop me from having that quiet drink... a nice strongbow dry made me feel much more betterer...

right now, i'm exhausted. throwing yourself at the pavement sure does zap your energy...

goodnight...

rain, rain, don't go away...

raining a lot today - yeah - the temperature has returned to something that resembles humanly bearable!! 21C/70F today... currently 18C/64F - the coolest day since october 14th according to mr weather channel. i'm happy just sitting here with a dumb grin on my face as i enjoy this weather change...

tonight's tnt involved a celebration of the fact that a lot of stuff has shifted and that means more space for happiness. 3.5 years of working through a lot of life's crap is finally starting to have rewards.

late shift tomorrow so a midweek sleep-in is planned. i could stay up late if i had the energy but i don't. therefore i'll say goodnight.

update: no chick chat tonight as the questions are about 'wedded bliss'... never had it, probably never will.

sun day...

bloody hot here today. 27C/80F but it felt much worse. the humidity was the worst part of it. 23C/73F forecast for tomorrow - yeah!!

met up with miss e for a coffee and a spot of grocery shopping today - as usual, we just wanted to get a few things and ended up buying much more than planned... i've hardly seen her all week so it was lovely to catch up with her. she always keeps me in good spirits.

serene saturday...

today must be the best day i've had in a long time. hardly coughing, generally happy.

went to see doctor to get chest xray results - clear - yeah!! still a bit rattly so will continue puffing away on the ventolin and symbicort but will wind down over the next week.

i went over to north sydney this afternoon to attend a market research interview. i think i might be a market researchers nightmare. i stick to brands i know and could care less about the brands i don't buy... the paid me $55 to answer questions about my hot beverage consumption habits so i lashed out and spent $5 of that on a nice small chunk of king island cape wickham double brie... mmm... cheesalicious...

i am amazed at how long it has been since i've travelled across the good old coat hanger and looked out at the view of the most beautiful harbour in the world. i used to make this trip twice a day when i worked on the other side of the creek. i hated the job, but loved the trip to get there and back. i noticed from the bus on the way back that my favourite sydney 'spot' no longer has a barricade to stop me from visiting. i will have to go for a lunchtime walk and just sit there and watch the ferries go by. another cause to be thankful - people pay a lot of money to come to sydney to see these sights, i see them on a daily basis and it costs me nothing. lucky, lucky girl.

i'm off to cook a thai green curry. more later maybe...

precioussssss....

with a bad case of cabin fever and the cough appearing to be under control, i ventured out to beastgardens to finally see lordoftherings:returnoftheking!!! omg!! what a fabulous ending to a fabulous filmic trilogy of the most fabulous of tales... there was a lot more of that gorgeous redhead, david wenham, as faramir - if you need to see more of one of australia's best actors, check out 'the boys' and 'better than sex'. i'm still flabbergasted many hours later and have 3 more free tickets... mmm... what will i do this weekend??? there are three other cinemas where it is still showing...

a day of blessings all round for the third daughter:

online chats with colorado tim and kd in the uk, a phone chat with the divine miss e.

the three books that cg sent only yesterday, arrived today! (i promise not to bitch about australia post for at least one month now!) being the angel that she is, she enclosed 2 movie money vouchers - this girl is the original treasure in my life!

the best news! an astounding and amazing ~*~25 dog day~*~ only 4 were actual street sightings - at the petshop at beastgardens i was transported to susan heaven - they had about 5 labrador pups and at least 5 golden retrievers, 4 gorgeous little jack russells, a fox terrier pup sharing a space with a schnauzer and a few fuzzy ones whose breeds were unknown. i just hope that all of these gorgeous little creatures go to good homes.

well enough blessings for me. i hope that all who read this have a day of blessings too.

feeling better...

still coughing just as hard, but not as much. have doubled the ventolin and symbicort intake and that appears to be helping. despite waking at 6am and not being able to get back to sleep, the day got off to a good start with a smile thanks to a wake up message from mlb in london. then came a good laugh about pantyhose at karen's blog and then another laugh while reading shirl's comment about swimsuit weather in michigan over at the other side.

the lovely cg called today to have a chat - she is a long term treasure and never fails to cheer me up. she has promised to send some books for me to read. also had another chat with tim - i could get used to these daily chats but better not as i'll be back at work soon enough.

i found a dead ladybird on my windowsill today. poor baby. she was very pretty - pale orange with 18 spots. not sure what to do with her, so i've currently got her wrapped in a tissue as i can't bear to chuck her in the bin. i'm hoping that she is living up to her european reputation as a sign of good luck (although sadly not for her)...

questions! questions! here are some answers...

oh, i am such a sucker for these things (found here via comments at wednesday whatevers)...

[Wallet] black, leather, paid way too much for it. it has enough slots to hold ALL of my cards (with a few to spare!!)
[Toothbrush] colgate, no idea of 'model', needs replacing...
[Underwear] none of your business - if you really want to know (pervert!), leave a comment...
[Shoes] barefoot right now

[Tattoos] 1
[Piercings] 4 - two in each ear
[What you are wearing now] pale blue shirt, blue shorts
[Do you believe in love] sometimes
[Do you believe in soul mates] yes
[Do you believe in love at first sight] yes
[What do you want done with your body when you die] organ donation of anything worth recycling followed by cremation and scattering into the wind...
[What are you gonna do when youre older?] hopefully continue to get older...
[What band are you listening to now?] delirium
[Look out your window...tell me what you see] the wall of the building next door, blue sky with fluffy white clouds above that, tops of the trees in the school behind me
[If you could have any animal for a pet?] orangutan, but only if i lived in the sumatran jungle
[What is the longest youve ever stayed up?] 4 days - coming home from london via moscow 1990

[Danced?] a long, long time ago... have the rhythm of a rock
[Were sarcastic?] all the time...
[Had a nightmare?] can't remember. don't have them very often

[Last movie you saw] at cinema, 'big fish' (well, most of it...) on tv, 'bridget jones's diary'
[Last thing you had to drink?] a cup of tea made with condensed milk - needed the 'comfort food' factor
[Last thing you had to eat] boiled eggs on toast (with vegemite - yum!), finally, but i overcooked them...

more later...

it just gets worse...

still coughing... had to have a chest xray today - might have a mild case of pneumonia... lower left lung still rattling... on way home from xray, swatted a bug that got stuck in my hair and managed to smack my glasses from my face and they skidded along the footpath for about 5 feet... blind as the proverbial bat without them but luckily the frames were glinting in the sun so could find them. fuck... scratched up a bit - will check with optometrist if they can be fixed without replacing lenses - the budget wont cover that right now, even with medical benefits coverage... came home and cried... tonight am missing out on the shindig that is the prize for the call centre winning the christmas decoration competition and friday night will also miss farewell drinks for two of the girls who are leaving this week. i am sick to death of being sick!!!

on the plus side, had a lovely chat with colorado tim - that always lifts my spirits and as he said, "things can only get better". i bloody hope so. also chatted with kd in the uk - another lovely friend who helps keep the positive energy flowing. currently chatting to mlb in london - the harley has made him a happy, happy boyo.

whatever, it's wednesday
1. How did you find out about the facts of life? originally via an education night at the local salvation army hall when i was about 10 (1971). lots of graphic (in the sense of pictures) depictions of the equipment necessary and how they join together... they also showed film of all sorts of animals being born - i do remember a giraffe - but not a single human child. later, in my first year of high school, i learnt more credible stuff from 'the little red school book'. it was banned but there were newspaper versions being handed out outside the school one afternoon.
2. What, other than love, makes the world go round? um, the laws of physics...
3. What is your favorite shape? a dodecahedron - i like the word more...

btw, want a logo? - found this at mandarin design - excellent stuff... so easy, even i could do this...

logo courtesy of cooltext - way cool!

btw II - no eggs on toast last night, they were past their use by date - erk... fresh ones purchased today, so will have them tonight!!

Tuesday, February 17, 2004

will it ever end...

and the cough goes on... it's mildy better but still there, so another day spent looking about the web, lolling on the couch, reading my book, etc...

tuesday   The Breakfast of Champions!

1. How do you like your eggs?: cooked any way - if boiled (or fried), white must not be hard and rubbery (or brown and crinkled) and either way, the yolk must be warm but still runny, not hard and crumbly. not that i'm fussy about how i like my eggs!!! btw, my mother makes the most perfect fried egg in the known universe...
2. French Toast /or/ Pancakes?: um, i love both... forced to make a choice, french toast with fresh banana and maple syrup... yum...
3. Toast: White /or/ Wheat?: ditto - forced again, white
4. Sausage /or/ Bacon?: oh dear, how can you choose? this is breakfast we are talking about! - both...
5. Breakfast in Bed /or/ Breakfast @ your fav Restaraunt?: definitely out at cafe/restaurant - always better when someone else cooks and no chance of crumbs in your bed...

after all that, i think i'm off to have some soft boiled eggs on white toast for my dinner...

Monday, February 16, 2004

bleugh...

...still coughing. back to doctor who is concerned about the wheezing & rattling in my chest and has now prescribed antibiotics... have been ordered to stay home until at least wednesday... i hope 16 years of smoking isn't catching up with me. i gave the filthy things up in 1992 but have had the odd one here and there since... once a smoker...

anyway, the cough is driving me mad so here is some...

Otto has provided some rules this week...
"I've got a new idea this week.......First of all, pick a letter, any letter.................Got one? Ok. For the following questions, all your answers must begin with the letter you just thought of. another lazy day

still coughing, not quite a bark anymore but still very unattractive... the divine miss e stopped by for a quick visit to deliver some lovely aloe vera tissues and a fresh box of strepsils. i'll say it again, that girl is a treasure and i am very lucky to have her as a friend.

another day spent resting - and again my definition of resting is surfing the web till my eyes ache, chatting to interesting people on all parts of of the globe (including several hours again chatting to colorado tim - another treasure) and blog tweaking (in this case trying to set up that webring i mentioned...)...

i did get the washing done but that was just so i have clean underwear... oops, probably tmi

oh well, enough blubbering, here are some

  1. Dragon:: fire
  2. Molecule:: atom
  3. Tire:: exhaust

oh bugger, i just checked the tv to see if there are any movies worth watching - bridget jones's diary is on - guess what i'll be doing tonight... that's right, crying over colin & hugh... mmm... colin... mmm... hugh... so glad i've got those extra tissues...

feeling better...

feeling much better today. the voice has returned, a little husky but a voice all the same. still coughing but not as much. resting, lots of fluids, vitamins, "chemist's own" cold & flu tablets, echinacea strepsils and a call from miss e to check up on me - these are the things that are making me better.

the best tonic of all was a many hours long chat with the treasured colorado tim. i also managed a chat with ray in nc while it was still his birthday and caught up with kd in the uk who has been unwell but is now on the mend and back in circulation.

have added a few bits and pieces to the wee bloggy and if i can get my html skills sharpened, i plan to make my own webring... no guarantees it will ever come to anything, but it's worth a try...

what? who says spending the whole day aimlessly surfing, blog tweaking and chatting up men in remote locations is not considered resting? well, i'm feeling very rested and that's how i spent my day...

time to get off the net and back to my so called life... goodnight...

Friday, February 13, 2004

woof...

woke up, barking like a dog... my voice is reduced to a squeak and i have a very unattractive cough... i doubt that i'll be seeing lotr:rotk this weekend... i doubt that i will do much at all... except cough... erk...

happy black friday birthday wishes to ray in nc and again to mlb in london - i hope the harley is all you hoped it would be...

have spent a lot of the day on the couch sleeping and will return there shortly.

Thursday, February 12, 2004

throaty thursday...

the sore throat has degenerated to a loss of voice - what a bonus for a call centre operator. i can always go to work tomorrow and stay off the phones, just spend the day shuffling paper... that would break my heart... will see how i feel tomorrow when i wake up...

despite another hot, sticky, rainy day, it was a 10 dogger and a very amusing but d&m conversation with colorado tim has left a good impression. praise to the internet - it takes away the need to use my voice to have conversations.

also talking to mlb in london - his birthday is tomorrow and he's getting himself a harley!! happy birthday to you! dreams do come true!

better late than nevers, here's some Wednesday Whatevers
1. What is your greatest weakness? Explain. um, men, chocolate, a nice smile - no explanation necessary...
2. What do you avoid at all costs? conflict
3. If you could stop time, what would you do? can i stop it then restart it? um, too hard...

i'm off for an early night...

p.s. i don't know if i've mentioned this here before but just after christmas i won a free ticket to see lotr:rotk via a promo thingy on a schweppes traditional lemonade bottle... now i've been hanging out to see this film since the end of lotr:t2t and even cried when watching a trailer back in october because i did not want to wait another 2 months to see it. anyway, the precioussss ticket was supposed to be with me within 2 weeks... 2 weeks later all i got was an sms on my mobile telling me to go to some website to confirm my address... done... 2 weeks later i went to the cadbury schweppes website and sent a nice email just asking when i might expect the ticket as i would be very disappointed to miss it at the cinema as i had been putting off seeing it in the expectation of receiving my prize etc. etc. ... standard bland response - notified mailing house etc... blahblahblah... 2 more weeks... nowt!!! another email sent - not so nice this time - forget the ticket, just send a list of your products so i know what not to buy in future (there goes my gin & tonic consumption - who else makes tonic water??), very disappointed, lifelong consumer, blahblahblah... that was last friday... monday, a little card from the post office - registered mail item to be picked up... oooh!!! went to collect it yesterday - 4 TICKETS... now i just need to find somebody who hasn't already seen it... or just watch it 4 times... my faith in cadbury schweppes is restored and i can keep drinking the g&ts... yeah!! (and eating chocolate... mmm... cadbury dairy milk...)

Wednesday, February 11, 2004

Tuesday, February 10, 2004

back to bowling...

first night back at bowling - 106,112,124 - not bad, considering i have not bowled for 2 months... miss shell from work has joined our league so i have changed teams to bowl with her - she is very good!

work was ok today. have a temp sitting with me. at least he has an interest in the job and managed to look like he was happy being there... the day went very fast.

summer has finally hit with vengeance - 37C deg today (98.6F for the meteorologically challenged) - and will be +30C (86F) for the rest of the week... yuk...

managed to have a non weekend conversation with colorado tim this afternoon- it's not often that we are online at the same time during the week so it was very nice to have a chat with him. he always manages to make me laugh.

i'm madder than a cut snake so here's some...
1. On Sunday afternoon, I like to just hang out on the net...
2. I'm behind someone at a traffic light, the light turns green and they just sit there, I don't care, i don't drive...
3. My immediate reaction to someone making a nasty remark to me is to cringe then i think 'die, bitch'...

9. As far as watching the clock on weekends, I don't...
10. I don't usually wash my car about every because i don't have one to wash...

bored bored bored

i'm so bored. bored with my life, bored with blogging, bored with everything... i'd rather be grumpy, being bored is just so boring... it's only that i got an email reminding me it was sunday that i'm here and then it's only so that when i forget what i've been doing, i can come here to find out how i've wasted my days.

yesterday i went to see 'big fish' again and went down to coogee for coffee with miss e and her sister kt. i managed to have a little nap towards the end of the movie... that's what happens when you only have 3 hrs sleep. had dinner with h at the local vietnamese noodle place - very yummy.

today i've started putting my kitchen back together. washing the plates and things before they go back into the cupboards. cleaned my water filter and using it again! so glad there are no filthy little cockroaches around to climb in and contaminate it - yeah!!

have i been unconscious all weekend? probably... here are some

  1. Identity:: crisis
  2. Reveal:: show
  3. Live:: your life
  4. Attitude:: is everything
  5. Night:: cap
  6. Nevada:: desert
  7. Weekend:: at bernie's

i'm off to cook dinner now. good night...

p.s. another link to add to the obsessions list... bloody brilliant (as usual, another good find at the other side. thanks shirl...) maybe i'm not bored, just distracted - damn them for having an off line version...

grump be gone...

the grump up and left just after 4pm this afternoon. it will be back but for now am glad it's gone. went out for birthday drinks with miss e. despite her best efforts at keeping quiet about her birthday, it was celebrated in fine style. the young man sitting next to miss e in the bus on the way home was chatting up her little sister kt and upon discovering there was a birthday happening, he got the whole (very crowded) bus to perform a rousing 'happy birthday to you'. it was priceless.

that's enough. v.tired. need to go to sleep...

happy birthday...

...to the lovely miss e! have a great day girl.

Thursday, February 05, 2004

grump...

...is my middle name. need to get rid of this grump and try to find that delirious happiness again.

even a 10 dog day didn't help much.

if you think you can make me laugh, leave a comment... good luck!

that's about all i can be bothered with tonight.

Wednesday, February 04, 2004

ah, whatever...

a bad cbbb day yesterday. started to write a post and explorer got lost and shut itself down and i just didn't have the energy to start again.

today could easily have turned out the same. at last it is payday and i had visions of all those lovely $$$$ from the recent attack of overtime... only to have my visions swept away by the fact that all of those hard worked hours had not been reported to the payroll system. the flimsiest of excuses - she forgot and the bitch had the hide to go off on leave for 3 days because she knew she'd have 25 people on her back about the lack of $$$$ in the coffers. just another reason to look for a new job (there is a local one advertised this week so have updated the old cv in preparation for the application...)

tonight i went to bingo with mrs jane, as usual we couldn't win a pox in a whorehouse raffle. mustn't grumble, it's always fun to spend time with mrs jane.

i missed the boat for chick chat so let's pretend it's tuesday, again...
   The Lil People
1. What's your nickname for your children?: um, don't have any... next question...

free ticket sunday...

went with miss e to see 'mystic river' this morning - advertised in friday/saturday papers to screen at 10.30am at fox studios... we front up at the box office - 'sorry, it's not showing. it was not advertised in the papers as showing today. there is a charity preview screening of 'big fish' instead'... another couple of girls turned up for the same screening. a complaint to the manager resulted in free tickets all round - bonus!!! ended up seeing 'underworld' instead. very stylish vampire flick - not totally fabulous but some cute boys and girls to look at and a fun way to waste a sunday morning.

had a fabulous chat with colorado tim this afternoon. this time it was my turn to make him laugh. also nattered with miss em. she sent a new photo of her little lad, taken yesterday at 'koala park'. they may have to go home to the old dart if they cannot get visa stuff sorted - hopefully they will be able to return as permanent residents some time in the near future...
