you must see this film!!!

tonight miss e and i went to see 'garden state'. it has gone straight to number one in my all time ever top five favourite films. GO SEE IT!! i want zach braff for christmas. natalie portman is soooo gorgeous. it is just a fabulous film - it has laughs, love, sadness, forgiveness, friendship and best of all, moments of original thought - something that is sooooo missing from most things these days. GO SEE IT!! i'll be seeing it again.

it was forecast that today's temperature would get up to 42°C - ugh... it would have been the hottest november day in sydney, ever, if it had got that high... so glad that it only made it to 34.7°C in the city but in the outer suburbs it did get up over 40° - please send some snow!!!

my tom bihn bag arrived today - i just have to be patient until saturday, when i can go to the post office to pick it up. even better, my mother has chipped in with some money towards the cost, so it will be my first christmas present! yeah!

what a top day!

mad, mad, mad...

yeah! i've got a banner - thanks to dizzy-girl!!

20 22 dogs. not a bad day for a monday... nothing else exciting to report.

monday madness!
otto says 'It's a sort of 'pot pourri' this week. Since I'm moving in a couple of days, I'm inviting everyone who participates this week to offer a question for next week's MM. I know I've done this before, but I really appreciated all the wonderful suggestions. I will use them if they've not been asked in the recent past. Thank you all for playing, and I wish you a wonderful week! =)'
1. How did you choose a name for your blog?
i am the youngest of three daughters and i have this print hanging over my fireplace. i also have a photo of myself that is a summer version of the print - a sleeveless dress, same hairstyle, same scowl.
2. How many times have you changed the name of your blog?
about 4 but only in theory. it was before i actually started the blog. i can’t remember the other names that i had considered.
3. How many blogs to you update regularly? two
4. How many times have you moved in your life? 15
5. On a scale of 1-10, how stressful is moving (in your opinion)? 15
6. When moving, do you/would you rent a moving van/truck?
yes and some men to move all the stuff!
7. Do you wear glasses? If so, how old were you when you needed them?
yes, i needed them long before i got them at 15...
8. What one question would you hope someone running a meme, would ask?
what is your earliest childhood memory?

let's go bowling!
134, 103, 110 - 4 pins under average for the three games. we only go two points and are languishing down in 4th place. unless we do really well and the other teams bowl like crap, we'll probably stay at 4th.

hot to trot

38°C in beautiful downtown sydney today - too bloody hot!! i wish it would snow...

i stayed awake until 4.38am this morning, finishing the book i was reading. i still managed to get up early (8.15am) and get the washing done before the real heat kicked in. spent most of the morning talking to colorado tim and blogcruising.

another saturday slug

i really must stop wasting my saturdays. as usual, i slept most of the day and spent way too much time on the net. i did come alive after the sun went down and went over the road to visit miss e for dinner.

i have to drag my butt out of bed early tomorrow. i want to get my washing and housework done early - ha ha ha...

that was painless...

this week has disappeared so fast and now the weekend is here - yippee!!!!!!

today i had my last lunch with miss marina for a while - just when all my oldest and dearest friends are working nearby, i'm moving to the other end of town. i will miss the boys at i'm starvin' too. i doubt that i will find a coffee/sandwich shop even half as good at the new location.

during my excursions through the land of blog explosion, i came across a link to this site where there was an offer for a free banner in exhange for a link to this site. being the freebie freak and linkwhore that i am, i've put in a request. i have no idea how to make banners, so i'm glad there are people out there who are willing to do it for me!! thank you dizzy girl!!

i'm off to the couch to watch 'notting hill' on the tele now - have a great weekend!!

i forgot to say...

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL WHO CELEBRATE IT!!!

i will have my own personal thanksgiving, right here, right now...

things i am thankful for today:
a roof over my head
the rent has been paid this week
i have a job
my very dear friends - in both real and virtual time
all of my five senses work
my tom binh bag is on it's way home
i'm having an early night

brrr...

very soon it will be summer, so why am i sitting here with in my favourite winter red polarfleece jumper and a blanket around my knees - it's bloody cold!

another day where not much happens. the most exciting thing to happen was an email telling me that my tom bihn bag was despatched yesterday - yippee!! i loooooooooooooove this bag!!! the only problem is that it wasn't supposed to be sent until late december... my poor bank balance is looking a bit sad so i will have to be very, very frugal until next pay day. at least the aussie dollar has improved against the almighty greenback. when i ordered the bag, the conversion put the price at AU$120. with the current exhange rate it was only AU$96 - bargain!!!

today's soundtrack:
no cds but i've been singing songs from grand national in my head - i'll have to play it soon...

i might be a butcher's daughter...

not a bad day at work. our team leader has been having individual catch-up meetings with us. they finally appear to understand the pressure we are under and are allowing us some time to get our employer groups sorted out (basically, we each have anywhere between 20 and 35 employers for whom we are the sole point of contact for any matters relating to the administration of their accounts.) they've eased off on the call centre backup work too - our team leader checks with the call centre manager before we are due to log on and if they are meeting their standards of service, we don't have to do it - yeah!!

had lunch with the lovely cg. we had a good gossip about life, the universe and everything - the main result of that conversation was that we are both living by the rule that there are only two things in life that we really have to do:

breathe in, breathe out

went to see the doctor for the blood test results. my fasting insulin is ok but she does not have the glucose tolerance results yet - bugger!! i'm also anaemic but that is nothing new. i'm usually borderline but i've slipped back to the wrong side of that border. i might have a steak this week.

now, i'll answer the questions that have been asked in the previous post...

mal quacked thus:
i) What makes you feel the most happy?
you might find this hard to believe but it is recognising that i am actually feeling happy...
ii) If you could change anything about your life, what would it be?
if i could go back and do it all again, there are several places where i would have taken a different path. having said that, i would not really want to change anything because then i would not be the person that i am right now...
iii) How often do you clean underneath your bed?
um, not very often. there are about 6 or 7 boxes of books under there so there is not much room for anything else to accumulate!

nisi questioned here:
1. where would you like to live other than sydney?
somewhere with fresh air and the ocean nearby or somewhere vibrant & exciting like london or paris.
2. What breed of dog is your favourite?
ooooohhh!! too hard - it varies from day to day. my alltime favourites are labradors, dalmations and pugs. (and shnauzers, gordon setters, jack russells...)
3. Should I go see Bridget at the cinema or wait for the dvd?
i think you should see it at the cinema. if i had unlimited free time and spare cash, i'd always prefer to see a movie at the cinema. i don't have the patience to wait for dvd's to come out - i only ever hire them when they are in the weekly session. i have a bad history of paying fines for the late return of one night hire new release movies.

shirl looked at it from the other side:
1. Your best subject in school.
a close race between english and maths. at least i still have a grasp on the english language. while i'm fascinated by mathematical things, i'm hopeless with numbers.
2. Your favorite vacation place where you go to get restored.
somewhere with fresh air and the ocean nearby or somewhere vibrant & exciting like london or paris.
3. Your sexiest piece of lingerie
tee hee - this - my only real piece of lingerie. i had to remove it photograph it...

what a goose...

it's after midnight and i'm still on the net. i've been surfing blogs via blog explosion - very addictive.

found this over at lorieworld...

(A) First, recommend to me:
1. a movie
2. a book
3. a musical artist, song, or album

(B) I want everyone who reads this to ask me three questions, no more, no less. Ask me anything you want.

(C) Then I want you to go to your blog/journal, copy and paste this allowing your friends to ask you anything & say that you stole it from me.

i'd best be off to bed now... maybe...

dull

apart from 8 dogs, nothing at all exciting to report... boyoboy, what an exciting life i lead...

if i were a man, you'd find me here...

at least tomorrow is payday and i'm having lunch with my dear friend cg. she has a new job, just across the road from where i'm working. pity we're moving to the other end of town at the end of next week...

Which Trainspotting Character Are You?

i must warn you that strong language is used - all in the spirit of the movie...

the amazing human pincushion...

ouch!! four different needle sites, one rather nasty bruise and 3 spots of irritation from my allergy to band-aids... and i have to wait until wednesday for the results. there were two school-age girls there having blood taken while i waited. they both screamed and cried and begged not to have to go through with it. i felt like telling them to shut up - at least they only had to go through it once!

got into work just before 1pm and left at 5pm. i could get used to working half days. not a lot has happened since i was last there. we all have new computers. some smart person thought it would be a good idea to install the new computers before we pack up and move to the new building (it's only two weeks away! eek!), to make sure that everything works. there will be enough time wasted setting up our new desks without having to deal with a new computer as well. let's just hope the network stuff at the new building is all plugged in properly...

12 dogs, no soundtrack - i need to recharge my discman batteries.

monday madness!
1. What is your favorite sport? bowling, of course!
2. Do you watch sports on television? bowling & darts - sadly they are only on cable so i don't get to see them anymore (and yes, darts is a 'sport' of sorts!!)
3. In high school, did you (or do you) play any sports? netball, softball, rounders, bowling, french cricket - not very good at any of them. being shortsighted did not help the hand/eye coordination thing. i didn't get glasses until i was about 15...
4. Any favorite teams? no
5. If applicable, did you (or do you) attend your child's games? n/a
6. Do you think professional athletes make too much money? yes

let's go bowling!
no bowling tonight - i am poor. i hate the monday before payday!

p.s. does anybody know where i might have put my birth certificate? i've looked everywhere and cannot find it... where do you put things for safekeeping and then forget where it was?

australian idle

my saturday was another of those days. i slept, ate some carbohydrates, surfed the net, slept some more, ate some more carbs, started and finished reading 'bridget jones: the edge of reason', choked down a few more carbs and then slept some more. i am australian idle...

as usual, sunday was more get up and go... up early (8am - v.early for this slugabed!) to meet miss e at 9.10am to go into the city to see the 10am session of 'napoleon dynamite' - a very strange film, nowhere near as good as the reviews had led us to believe. it raised a few chuckles here and there but was ultmately a bit dull. at least is was another freebie...

after the movie we walked down to circular quay where we met up with miss e's cousin's girlfriend. we wandered around the rocks market - not as crowded as usual but it still had the occasional gridlock moment... i was very good and did not buy anything but a chocolate dipped strawberry with almonds - yummo!! afterwards we walked down to the opera house to check out the preparations for the 2004 australian idol final tonight. a gazillion people were already camped out waiting for the gates to open and another gazillion japanese tourists were looking v.disappointed that they could not get very close to opera house for the obligatory 3000 photos.

came home, had a nap, ate a bucketload of carbs (i am so glad this is over - i think i'll be on 24 hour salad duty for the next two weeks!), started reading 'bridget jones's diary', had a nap, talked to my mother and then settled on the couch to watch the australian idol final. congratulations to casey donovan for winning - i wanted her to win but seriously thought that anthony would get the votes.

have been 'fasting' since 9pm as i'm off to the the bloodletter tomorrow morning to have the glucose tolerance test. they will take blood when i get there, give me glucose solution to drink & then take 2 more lots of blood at hourly intervals. even if i'm first in the door at 8.30am, i doubt that i will be out of there before 11am which means i will probably get to work by about lunchtime - just in time to have some breakfast! getting in late is such a nice way to ease my way back into the working week!!

Green Bean Casserole Soda??????

found this as shirl's - i have no idea who or what jones holiday sodas are but i just love the little pug in the picture!

i'm still here...

i've been fiddling about, getting my images copied to my new isp's server so that all my little buttons and whatnots will appear on my wee bloggy... i've learnt how to use an ftp program so my life has been enriched! i'm now trying to go back through all of my posts that have images and update the link to the new server... bugger...

yesterday ended up being 36°C so i had very lazy day. i did venture out late in the afternoon to have a haircut and get some supplies for when miss e came over for dinner. was going to cook risotto but it was too hot so we had hommous & crackers and some yummy lemon & garlic olives and then had a pizza delivered, all washed down with some cider and wine.

today i coloured my hair to hide the neverending onslaught of silver - it is now a lovely mahogany colour with glints of bright red where the silver refuses to be conquered. i shouldn't complain about the silver - at least i don't have wrinkles (yet...) i spent the rest of the day in the city with my friend, rc, and his friend ray. it was a lot of fun. we had some lunch and then the boys did some shopping - i swear they were worse than any girl i know when i came to deciding what to buy.

on monday morning, i'm having a glucose tolerance test. to prepare for this i have to spend three days eating lots of carbohydrates - check out the link for what is required. today was the first day and i feel like i have eaten two small horses... i know i have a healthy appetite but this is ridiculous! although i did like having an excuse to buy some biscuits - i try not to buy them because living alone, i'm the only one who eats them... the ones i bought are crispy dutch spice biscuits and they are very yummy. i'm going to try this recipe and see if they turn out the same...

my holiday is now officially over. it has gone soooo fast but at least i've had a very relaxing week.
things i did in my week off:
slept lots
read two books (watermelon and lucy sullivan is getting married by marian keyes. i can highly recommend them
caught up with good friends
slept some more
had my hair cut and coloured (this was the only item that was on my to-do list that actually got done...)

knuckleheads unlimited

i called my telephone/isp people yesterday. i was on hold for 15 minutes before my call was answered. i explained the problem, read out the letter i had received and pointed out that i had no evidence that anyone from their company had tried to call me. the girl i spoke to said that under the privacy act, they are not allowed to leave messages. i told her that was crap. i've worked in a call centre, i leave messages all the bloody time. she said they could not leave messages with personal account details. i told her that was crap also - they could just say 'hello, i'm knucklehead from knuckleheads unlimited, please call back'. she agreed that yes, they could have done that. when asked why that had not happened, she didn't know. 1st rule of customer service: don't make stuff up - especially not something that relates to a goverment legislated/act of parliament type affair. she could not tell me what had caused the problem with the direct debit. she put me on hold for another 10 minutes and then came back to tell me that someone from their finance department would call me back. i had some credit on my amex so i paid 20% of the outstanding amount - an act of good faith to prove that i am willing to pay. i waited for the call. it didn't happen... bad move...

i called them again this morning. apparently their finance people don't make outbound calls to customers. too bloody important maybe. 2nd rule of customer service: don't make promises you cannot keep! at least this knucklehead knew what the problem was - my bank details had been entered into their system incorrectly - their error. i know i put the right numbers on the form - i triple checked it. he said my account might or might not be disconnected on friday but more than likely would be as there is and outstanding amount. i said that this problem is not my fault and i should not be disadvantaged because of their error. i was starting to get angry. he told me to send in my bank details again and that he would send me another form. i asked to speak to someone regarding setting up a payment plan as i just do not have the money to pay the outstanding amount by friday. he said that was not possible. i got angrier and expressed my dissatisfaction with a communications company who have no idea how to communicate and with the fact that they were not willing to admit that the error is theirs. he said 'we tried to contact you' and i reminded him that not a single message had been left on my messagebank and that they had also entered my email address incorrectly in their system. he said 'well, i'm going to send you the form, free of charge.' bad, bad move. i became the customer from hell and felt totally justified. i asked him to explain the concept of sending me a form 'free of charge' - since when do they charge people for this? i told him what i thought of his company. i asked to speak to his supervisor and got put on hold for another ten minutes. i hung up and called three more telephone companies. all three agreed that they would have contacted me much sooner if payments were not received and that in cases like this, they would agree to some sort of payment plan.

i have a new telephone service/internet account. i will call the old one tomorrow and request an itemised account (seeing as how i never received anything from them previously) and that i will be paying it off as i can. f*ck'em!

i've got the nasty stuff out of the way - back to the light and fluffy...

tuesday was a bit of a washout. i think i pulled a muscle in my back when bowling and was a bit crippled yesterday. i spend a lot of it on the couch with hot water bottle attached to my back - much better today. i went for a walk down to coogee, did some housework and tonight i went to bingo with mrs jane. as usual, we won nowt but it was fun.

supposedly 32°C tomorrow - eek! meeting my old boss, rc, for coffee, hopefully somwhere with aircon!!

eek!!! bugger!!! damn!!!

if i should disappear from blogland at the end of this week, don't be alarmed. i discovered today that the direct debit for my telephone line/internet access has not been activated so i'm five months behind!! eek!! i have to find a bucket of money between now and thursday or they're going to cut me off... i really should pay more attention to my bank account. i could kick my own behind for not being more observant... wish me luck that a wad of cash will fall down from the sky. i'm going to call them tomorrow and try to sort this out. the letter claims that they have tried unsuccessfully to call me but they have never left any messages on my messagebank to say they called so i'm inclined to believe they haven't tried at all. bloody hell, i am such an eejit...

apart from that, i was very lazy today. if i'm not careful the week will disappear and i will have done nothing. i did get through 2 crosswords, had come quality timchat and went to 7/11 to get the paper.

monday madness!
otto says 'This week we'll choose one or the other of the following....'
1. bar soap and shower gel
2. cd's or cassettes
3. television movies and documentaries
4. wall calendar at home and desk calendar at work
5. dsl, cable, or dial-up
6. summer or winter
7. city for now and country eventually
8. camping or stay in a hotel but i will try camping one day...
9. gold and silver
10. fiction and non-fiction books
11. mashed potatoes or baked potatoes but even that is rare - not a big fan of taters...
12. ranch, italian, or catalina dressing - ranch is disgusting and i've never heard of the other...
13. solid or spray deodorant - roll on

let's go bowling!
102,121,140 - over average for the three games but again, we only managed 2 points and are still in 4th position. at least we were on top for part of the season. there is little chance we'll get back into the top three unless the other teams bowl like crap for a few weeks. we can dream.

heroic effort

another very lazy saturday spent blogcruising, timchatting and napping. i managed to cook some porridge for breakfast without setting the kitchen alight! watched 'the poseidon adventure' on the tv last night, it is so bad which makes it so good...

a much more active day today: up and out early to meet miss e at 9.40am. we went to see hero down at the ritz - an astounding movie - i highly recommend that you see it, if you haven't already. the storyline is excellent, the cinematography is awesome and the use of colours is amazing. i found this link, which gives a good explanation of the colours used, via a comment from this gentleman over at starbuck's blog.

after the movie, we walked down to coogee and had a coffee and then went to the greengrocer and supermarket to get some salad things - i'm intending to walk every day and to eat healthy things this week.

there was a firetruck parked in the bus stop outside the record store, so a four fireman sighting added to a 10 dog day with some quality timchat this afternoon makes this a happy susan day.

aaahhhh!!!! that's better...

slowly sinking into holiday mode. breathe in, breathe out, drop the shoulders, allow the diaphragm to relax and come down from it's hiding place up inside my ribcage.

i had lunch today with the nick, an old workmate who i have not seen for about 2 years. i lashed out and took an hour for lunch so we had a nice catch up gossip.

holiday 'slug mode' activated when i dialled the number to have a pizza, from queens park pizza, delivered for my dinner. i'm now blogcruising and plan to stay up as late as i can stay awake. the way i'm yawning, that could be very soon...

i'm in love...

colin firth is soooooooooooooooooooooooo gorgeous. can i have him for christmas? the new bridget movie is good but not at all true to the book and possibly not as good as the first. colin firth makes up for every flaw on this planet. hugh grant has slipped back to number 2 but i guess if he wants to be in my christmas stocking, well, i wont say no!

found this at shirls - people have often asked me this question. now i can answer it!

You Are From Jupiter

You are exuberantly curious - and you love to explore newness.
Enthusiastic and optimistic, you get a kick out of stimulating intellectual discussions.
Foreign cultures and languages fascinate you. You love the outdoors, animals, and freedom.
Chances are you tend to exaggerate, so try to keep a lid on that.
If you do, you'll continue to be known for your confidence, generosity, and sense of justice.

one more day of work and i've got 9 beautiful days of sleeping in, slacking off and doing nothing much. it is this thought that is keeping me sane!!

catch up

a combination of blahs, extreme tiredness and a double migraine weekend have left me lying low. here is a brief rundown.

last friday, i went with harryo to visit our friend, mr, who has just returned from a short trip to the uk. lots of great photos to look at, delicious pizza, home made espresso coffee and some of my yummy fudge.

saturday was mostly spent horizontal, in the dark, fighting off a migraine.

my friend from work, kt, and his partner m, visited on sunday night. we were going to watch 'pirates of the caribbean' on dvd but ended up watching 'rabbit proof fence' on the tv instead. great film. it was kt's last day at work today. he will be missed by everybody. i had the pleasure of organising his farewell gift so i got to go out for half an hour and do a spot of shopping. i've given up on my job search for now. it requires more energy than i can give it at the moment.

monday was a repeat of saturday.

monday night bowling was better than it has been in a long time - 128, 116, 121 but we only managed two points.

nano is a bit of a nono at the moment - i will endeavour to catch up but wont make it a promise :)

off to see 'bridget jones: the edge of reason' tomorrow night, courtesy of our social club - another freebie but i'd happily pay full price to see this one.

back soon!

happiness factor

an astounding 20 dog day. found this link over at nisi's, which led me here. bus trip home with kt - i'll miss him when he leaves next week. organised my first visit to the dog's home - i'm going for the orientation next saturday. cooked yummy chicken/vege stir fry with chili jam for dinner. one and a half weeks and i've got a week off work. my friend rc called tonight, he is back from his 4 month jaunt around the world - we're going to catch up soon.

compared to the recent blahs, i guess i have to say that i'm relatively happy.

todays soundtrack:
the runaway found : the veils (it came into my head while i was in the shower. i had to listen to it. love it.)

it might be a nano nono tonight. i'm too tired and the subject matter is stirring things up.

wake up!!!

a sleepyhead sleep in tuesday. when the alarm went off at 6am, i thought to myself "i'll just listen to news..." i woke up at 7.45am... i blame it on daylight saving. i was out the door by 8.35! a record for me although i did not have breakfast at home and forgot to put on my ring, bracelet and earrings.

i was lucky enough to win 1st prize in one of the melbourne cup sweeps and got $24 for my efforts. i did not make it to the tab so did not have a flutter - a good thing - my choices are still running...

not a bad day...

...for a monday. i didn't have to wear my call centre hat today and i also have a headset free day tomorrow. not sure why this kindness was bestowed upon me but i'm giving thanks to the universe anyway.

two of my teammates, kt and aj, went to see a movie after work and they were coming to randwick for some dinner first. aj had her car and offered me a lift home so i talked miss e into skipping out a little early so she could come with us. we got away before the peak hour traffic and were home within 15 minutes. i wish the bus trip were that quick!

tomorrow is 'melbourne cup' day - the race that stops the nation. i had a chat with mr kim tonight - he knows about form & track conditions and all that guff and he gave me some tips. i will have a small flutter but wont go overboard.

monday madness!
otto says 'Do you.....'
1. Code your own website or use a template? i use a blogger template but i've hacked it to death.
2. Use a digital camera or a film camera? If digital, do you print your own pictures, order them online, or send them out? i have a film camera which i get developed at the photo store and get a copy on cd. i also have my phonecam and send the pictures to my yahoo account.
3. Make your own cards or buy them at a card shop? a bit of both but lately have been lazy and buy them.
4. Draw your own graphics or get them from the internet? me, draw?? not likely. anything i draw looks like it should be stuck on the fridge (if you know what i mean...)
5. Take showers or baths? showers. i like baths but i never seem to find the time.
6. Make your own candles or buy them? And are they soy or paraffin? buy but i have thought of making them some day. as for soy or paraffin?? i have no idea. wax mostly and i did have some palm oil ones but the burnt out too fast.
7. Celebrate Halloween or not? not
8. Sleep in on weekends or get up early even if you don't have to go to work? um, sleep in of course. i will get up early if i have something exciting to do.
9. Correct other people's grammar, or just let it go? always, and their spelling. especially their spelling...

let's go bowling!
101, 77, 129 - but we got ten points - yippeee!! we might creep back to 3rd place, if we are very lucky.

today's soundtrack:
when it's all over we still have to clear up : snow patrol (playing it over the weekend has revived my obsession - this one has somehow been imprinted in my brain now.)
