it's the great pumpkin, charlie brown...

happy halloween - i've been a wicked witch all day. a wickedly lazy witch that is. halloween is not as popular here in oz as it is on the american continent. some people do the 'trick or treat' thing but it's not very common.

i can't believe that in a few short hours it will be november and i have agreed to string 50,000 words together into some sort of coherent form before the end of the month... according to my blogger profile, i've written 90,778 words on my blog and that has taken 14 months. oh well, i'll do my best - it is all i can do...

spring forward, fall back

the biggest event of the day was the previously blogged kitchen fire. apart from that, i blog cruised, put my idea for a new template on hold and decided on the name of my nanowrimo attempt. i also slept a fair bit. sleep is good.

i also had a nice long chat with colorado tim - he is very good for my soul.

cooked a yummy lamb & vegetable korma curry for tonight's dinner and managed not to set fire to anything!

daylight saving starts tonight so i'm going to lose an hour somewhere shortly. i hate the first week after the clocks go forward - my internal timekeeper gets confused and that, in turn, confuses me.

hot stuff in the kitchen

i had all great intentions of blogging last night but ended up asleep on the couch by about 8.45pm and woke up at a quarter past midnight. i staggered off to my nest and managed to sleep until 9am this morning.

today has started well - i started a fire in the kitchen while cooking my breakfast - i was making some porridge and forgot to turn off the gas and somehow the teatowel was too close to the flame. i managed to fling the flaming cotton into the sink and turn the tap on before the smoke alarm went off. now, if i'd left it long enough, i could have had a visit from the fire brigade. mmm... firemen... speaking of firemen, i saw a firewoman the other day - perhaps that is another job option for me but then again, the distraction of men in uniform may be too much for me...

i'm off to do some research for nonowrimo and find a new template. more later...

i can highly recommend...

...having a midweek day off. even though today felt like a monday, i knew it was thursday and there is only one more day of torture this week... do i sound like i am totally over this job?? i certainly am. i have a week off coming up soon. i'm soooo looking forward to that. i'll probably not go anywhere but it was the only week available for leave between now and april, so i made it mine. it will be a good time to do some serious job hunting as i'll be able to go for interviews without being restricted by trying to fit them in outside of working hours.

i went to the supermarket tonight and bought a sh*tload of stuff to do some serious cooking. i made a very delish tuna/pasta salad for dinner and over the weekend will be making a lamb curry, chicken and mushroom lemon risotto and my favourite chicken/vegetable stir-fry with chili jam. i'll freeze it all in plastic containers for lunches/dinners and i won't have to cook again for ages...

a 6 dog day but hopefully my dog quota will soon be off the richter - i've signed up to do some volunteer dog walking/grooming at the sydney dog's home. i sent off the initial email last night and hope to hear from them soon about getting started. i looked about their site and they foster dogs out to people's home to avoid having to put them down. there were so many cute dogs waiting for adoption, i was in tears at the circumstances of some of the poor little doggies. i'd foster or adopt one (or three) myself but it is just not possible at the moment. one day...

help!! blogger has crapped itself. i've not been able to visit any blogspots all
afternoon!! i'm having rather severe bloggy withdrawal symptoms so this has been posted
via the marvels of blogging by e-mail...

i had a very nice day off. slept in until 9am. went to see 'shall we dance' - fabulous.
richard gere has still got it. a 41 dog day - 37 of them were in the two pet shops at
beastgardens - i wish i could have bought all of them. i was watching four gorgeously
cute jack russell pups playing 'jump'n'bark'n'bite' when a loud whoop-whoop type alarm
went off. they stopped jumping immediately and looked at me as if to say 'wtf!!' i talked
to them through the glass and let them know they were safe. as soon as the alarm stopped,
they went happily back to their game. i wanted one (or all) of these dogs so much, i
nearly cried.

i hope bloggers gets better soon!

weekend wrap up

since my little dummy spit, i've just been getting on with life. two people finished up at work on friday - miss shell is moving on but i'll still see her at bowling. another girl in my team has returned home to malaysia. i'm hoping it will be my farewell being celebrated soon even if the damned agency have not bothered to return my calls - can't understand why - i can make money for them if they get me a job. i'll keep plugging away at job applications anyway. after leaving work on friday, i jammed in my earphones, turned up the volume on my discman and walked from circular quay to central (just for something to do. it took about 40 minutes.) it started to rain about halfway there and i'd left my umbrella at work but i didn't care. it was nice to let the rain wash away the week.

on saturday, miss e and i went to see 'collateral'. i'm not a big fan of tom cruise as an actor (regardless of how he treated 'our nic' - i care even less about her...) but i do think he is a gorgeous looking man. the movie was pretty good and i enjoyed watching. i even managed to not see the plot twist at the end, even if it was terribly obvious in hindsight! after the movie, we walked down to coogee and had a coffee. it was such a gorgeous day.

today was spent in the usual sunday fashion, laundry and housework. the weather did a u-turn and it has been grey and wet all day. i'm glad we've had a few spring days in between the early summer and the extended winter!

the trip back from blah-blah bland...

mmm... how to describe 'the blahs' without blowing my cover and alerting you to the fact that i'm really a total fruitcake... let me just say that over the last few weeks, i've let life get to me and rather than fighting back, i've allowed myself to slip back into bad, old negative, 'self'-destructive behaviours. despite four and a half years of hard work to to help me recognise and avoid the onset of the 'blahs', i chose to ignore the physical, mental & emotional manifestations and unravelled, just a little bit... that's all you need to know.

p.s. i forgot to say thanks to everybody for your kind words. i do appreciate them very, very much. thank you!

a man and a guitar

just a quick post and then off to bed - it's very late... went with miss e to see damien rice tonight. flaggergasted, gobsmacked, lost for words at last. one man, a guitar and the metro filled to capacity. the crowd were stunned into silence at times and would then be roaring for more. the support act was a bit bland (a bit more enthusiasm would have been nice...) the surprise of the night was this aria winner doing a 15 minute set in between followed up by joining damien during the encore for a fabulous few songs.

just another boring monday

zero dogs due to the rain. if i had a dog, i'd take him for a walk in the rain.

monday madness!
otto says 'This week's questions are all about computers! Let's play, shall we??? (and let's make it fill-in-the-blanks....)'

1. I have reformatted my hard drive about zero times.
2. I usually reformat my hard drive about zero times a year.
3. When I'm working in a document, I save about every zero minutes.
4. I've upgraded my computer by adding nothing in the last 4 years. prior to that, it had pretty much everything except the floppy drive replaced..
5. I've got about twenty or thirty CD's/floppies with info on them and about 90% of them aren't labeled.
6. Since I've been using my computer, I find the easiest way to organize my files is to put them in folders and then forget which one.... (Looking for suggestions!!)
7. I have five email accounts.
8. Whenever I have a computer-related question, I usually call my computer some really bad names....
9. I usually use a search engine when looking for anything and everything - google rules!!.
10. My computer is about ten years old.

let's go bowling!
eek! 113, 91, 118 - i'm beginning to think i'm wasting my time. harryo bowled 230 in the first game so we managed 6 points but will probably stay at 4th place. ah, there is always next week.

crazy lazy bones

a complete buttlazy day - slept until 11am then spent the rest of the day blogcruising and trying on new templates for my wee bloggy. i'm just not yet clever enough to make sense of the whats and hows and whatevers. i want a simple three column layout and i've managed to find lots. i'm having trouble working out how to drag my existing stuff into the new layout without losing anything and messing it up entirely. i'm considering writing my own template but it might take some time, considering my complete lack of proper html or web design skills. i'll also have to take into account the fact that i've somehow been crazy enough to sign on for writing a 50,000 word novel by november 30th... can you spell 'ambitious'??? maybe 'delusional' would be a more appropriate term...

update: after last week's heatwave and a relatively chilly maximum of 19°C today, tomorrow has a forecast maximum temperature of 15°C... with 17°C on tuesday and 19°C on wedenesday... i was worried that spring had been hijacked and now we've gone back to winter!! mind you, i'm not complaining!!

interesting...

very yummy sashimi bento box dinner at cocolo - as i always do, i ran a google search on the name of the restaurant and it would appear to have been named after a japanese porn star !!!!

for reasons i'll never understand, i've signed up for this... i can barely string a blogpost together without rambling. can you imagine 50,000 words of my usual crap? i will be seeking support from shirl, who i allowed to dare me into this

i've spent a lot of today investigating a new template for my wee bloggy, so please don't be scared if you come here and think you are somewhere else... and don't be surprised if you come back here and nothing has changed!

tea time

ugh... a little bit fragile this morning. a girl who used to work with us, ne, came into the city for a drink. famous last words - i'm only going for one! (at a time...) i was not leglessly drunk but not having any dinner is never a good move when you are drinking. it was a fun night and great to catch up with the lovely ne - her birthday is the day after mine and we both have a true cancerian soul.

this afternoon, miss e and i went to bondi junction for a spot of shopping. i have not been there since the new whizzbang westfield shopping centre opened - very funky, although full of overpriced designer shops that sell hideously expensive crap clothing at hideously stupid prices for hideously dumb people to buy... oops, i think i've ranted previously about my thoughts on 'designer' threads... anyway, there is a t2 shop there, so i am a happy girl. i used to have to stock up on my favourite chai whenever i went to melbourne - now it is only a bustrip away! i went mad and bought chai, some turkish apple tisane and some rooibos red tea with quince - very yummy! despite being a caffeine fiend, i'm also a total tea tart!

off to the new japanese restaurant down at the spot tonight with miss e and her cousin and his girlfriend. i've been craving japanese food for a while, so i'm looking forward to going there. must dash and get myself gorgeous... ha ha ha...

more often than i should (i.e. can afford), i buy my morning coffee and sometimes my lunch at the best little sandwich shop in sydney. it is an expense i'm willing to live with because the food is the best, the coffee better and the staff are the greatest. one of the boys who works there, and his girlfriend, are exhibiting some of their art work. the painting above is not really indicative of the work that will be on display (and for sale) - in fact, the theme will be quite a lot darker than 'happy bunnies' but i believe it will be well worth seeing. if you live in sydney, please accept this as an invitation to go along and check it out.

(p.s. i'm posting the 'advertisement' purely because i want to - all i get is the joy of sharing this event with you.)

the usual boring thursday

the heat has gone - YEAH!! 2 hours overtime tonight.

only a 7 dog day but the count included one of these and 3 dogs in the city - that is a very rare sight so there were bonus points today! if you are new here & confused by this crazy dogcount, i'll explain - i love dogs to the point of obsession. i live in a small suburban flat with a very small no yard and i work full-time. therefore, there is no way i can have a dog of my own at this point. many years ago, to ease the boredom of the bustrip to and from work, i started to count the dogs i saw each day. this has now turned into a daily mild obsession game - the more dogs i see, the better the day is. being my game, the rules are also up to me & extraordinarily arbitrary - dogs in cars, dogs in the city, guide dogs for the blind, multiples of the same breed with one human companion, the current 'favourite' dog, any dog that makes me smile/laugh & especially dogs that i get a chance to pat - they all get bonus points. bonus points can be just one or infinite (usually just a nice round gazillion). for every bit of happiness i get from seeing these dogs, i send out happiness vibes times 'x' to my friends and anyone else who wants it... so, can you spell 'deranged'?

sob...

the grinch really has stolen spring - the mercury hit 38°C today and weatherchannel tells me it's still 30°C... according to some reports, today was the hottest october day in sydney. ever. (well, only since they've been monitoring such things, of course...) 29°C forecast for tomorrow then my beloved spring is supposed to be reinstated from friday with refreshing lows of 13°C and highs of 22°C. YEAH!!!

the paralympian parade was held today - i think all of those who participated should be given a gold medal for battling the sun and heat. a few of my workmates and i went downstairs and did a bit of flagwaving.

i spoke to the girl from the agency - the man who will make the decision about who to interview has 'been up the coast'. hopefully i will know tomorrow!

an 8 dog day, a nice catch up chat with mrs jane, the fan is spinning madly and i'm off for an early night...

no soundtrack today, it was tooooo hot...

p.s. should i change the name of my blog to 'the sydney weather blog'? i'll get over this obsession with heat once it cools down...

p.p.s. i'm sure that there was something else that i wanted to blog about but my poor old mind does not remember what is was... by the time i remember it, it will probably be old news or something not really blogworthy... aarrgghh!!

summer??

aaarrrggghhh!!! mark I
my favourite season has been hijacked. we had 35°C temperatures in beautiful downtown sydney today with 37-38°C forecast for tomorrow. it is alleged that there will be a cool change with temps of 25°C on thursday and back to a much more civilised 22°C on friday - i bloody hope so!! at least the humidity is below 50% but that just makes it drier for the bushfire season...

aaarrrggghhh!!! mark II
it's official, my braincell has gone on a permanent holiday... due to the heat, i decided it was time to resurrect the electric fan. i thought it was in the 'spare' room (the one full of junk) - nope!. i looked in my bedroom - no, checked the wardrobes - no, looked in the kitchen & bathroom cupboards (the ones that are still empty since the great cockroach massacre of january 2003) - no. called my mother and miss e to see if they could think of anywhere else i may have hidden it - no... in a last ditch effort, i thought i'd look under my bed. there it was, sitting on the floor next to my bed, not hidden, not pretending to be a potplant or something else. i'm so embarrassed!!! but at least i feel cool...

apart from the heat and the stupidity, it was an ok 8 dog day. no word from the agency about an interview yet but i've settled in to the fact that i will be leaving as soon as i can so i'm not letting the place stress me too much. i cooked some yummy pasta with rocket, lemon juice, chili, garlic and parmesan for dinner and i'm alright with the world.

mmm...

a pretty ordinary monday. 12 dogs, a not too stressful work day. not much else to report.

monday madness!
otto says 'It's almost Monday.....and you know what THAT means! Back to work, back to school, but most importantly, time for Monday Madness! Each of the following begins with'

Name 3 things....
1.... your ideal salad has on it. balsamic vinegar, freshly ground black pepper, olive oil
2.... you do religiously in the morning. have a shower, deodorise, perfumise, brush my teeth, moisturise. (i know, that's 5 but they are all done religiously and in this order. can't leave any steps out!)
3.... you look forward to doing in your spare time. reading, catching up with friends, surfing the whirled wild whatever
4.... you've never done before, but think you will at some point in your life. visit mauritius, meet an orangutan, win the lottery (the power of positive thinking - if i say it will happen, it will happen!)
5.... you love to do while on vacation. relax, sleep in, not be at work
6.... you took pictures of in the last month. my loungeroom, pansies, clouds
7.... you have to do before the end of the day. post this blog entry, brush my teeth, go to bed
8.... you like about your best friend. lots in common, makes me laugh, lets me cry

let's go bowling!
um, this is way tooooooo embarrassing... 109, 91, 93 - ouch!! luckily harryo and shell bowled well so we got 8 points - i made little contribution to this... we've slipped back to 5th place but may sneak back up to 4th this week...

snoozin' susan

i'll admit that i'm not terribly politically minded but i am very disappointed that this idiot has been given free rein to ruin our society & our country for another term. i'm going to make an effort to learn more about our political system. miss e and i ended up going to the labour club last night. a very subdued crowd but they cheered up when our newly elected mp entered the auditorium.

i ended up doing something nice today - i slept. a lot. sometimes it's nice to just spend the day snoozing and that is what i have done. i got up at 10.00am(ish) and by 12:15pm was yawning my head off so i went back to bed for a nap until 2.15pm. i had a punnet of delicious stawberries for a late lunch and have been lurking about on the net since. just thinking about sleeping has made me yawn again but i'll stay awake - if i snooze too much, i wont be able to sleep tonight.

my place

i've been a good girl today. i had the washing done by 10.30. the kitchen is clean, i've hoovered the carpet and cleaned the bathroom and it's still only saturday!! i'll have to think of something nice to do tomorrow, seeing as how i wont have to sit here thinking/worrying about eventually getting around to doing the housework! this morning, i went with miss e to see 'the notebook', courtesy of my filmink freebie. what a lovely film. if you should go to see it, take tissues - lots - i cried at least two buckets. after the movie, i met up with baby g's parents for a coffee. i have not seen them for ages. the lucky buggers have been in thailand for 3 weeks. it was nice to catch up.

tonight it's miss e's turn to come over to my place. we have a another bottle of pink champagne to celebrate the removal of the john howard liberal government (we hope...) and a bottle of banrock station white shiraz, just because we can.

plan b is a much better idea....

another early start to be on time for my visit to the 2nd agency. i'm so glad i went. the young lady i spoke to was sooo nice. i took along the results of my recent skills test and she was suitably impressed. the job sounds very, very interesting and she is hoping to set up an interview early next week. the brother of a friend of mine used to work for the new prospective employer, so that gives me a good excuse to finally getting around to calling her this weekend to get some inside information. i'm already feeling very positive about this one - i hope it works out!

generally a better day all round. feeling much more betterer. 9 dogs. it's friday. a brief txt msg from mr kim letting me know he is still alive. bridget jones is on the tv (although i could just watch the dvd, i'm watching it on the teev anyway - just now at the part where mark darcy comes back at the end of the movie... what a honey...) had a nice chat with my friend jules tonight - she's off to malaysia for a week on business but we've planned to catch up in two weeks and hopefully leanne will be able to make it too - it will be the first time the three of have caught up together in at least 20 years!

good night!

WARNING!!

this post contains t.m.i. and bad words. the o.b.p.c. advises that if you are easily offended and can't deal with "women's things", you might as well go here and have a lurk about. normal service will resume tomorrow.

Sucky Horrid Iirritating Thursday - Frigging Incapacitating Girly Hurting Things

i woke up at 3am with tell tale pains. errghh, sometimes i hate being a woman... sadly, even though they work very well, i'm allergic to the 'nsaid' type painkillers, so i can't use them. i managed to get out of bed nice and early as i had planned but rather than taking my usual panadeine forte for 'the pain you can't explain', i took just plain paracetamol in order to keep my head clear for the interview. bad move - the panadol wore off about 20 minutes into it. the fact that they decided to hold the interview in a cafe, with all the noise and distractions available, was bad enough - the pain in my guts just made things worse. the job spec proved to be far more technical than the agent had described and to be honest, i did not warm to the two ladies asking the questions - it felt more like an interrogation. all in all, a waste of my time and theirs. jeez, i'm glad i've got 'plan b' to fall back on!! i'm giving some serious thought to making an effort to like my current job more - pros: miss e works there, the new swiss boy (who is very sweet), the comfort zone factor... cons: it sucks... job hunting is a pain in the arse.

anyway, i'm off to my nest now.

no soundtrack today. it was too much effort to fanny about with the earplugs.

same place, different faces

i have another
interview with
the same
potential employer
tomorrow morning
at 8.00am...
double eek!!
i will be meeting with two of the team members and if that goes well, i will get to meet with the team manager and the human resources lady. i'm not as nervous as i was last week but i'm sure that tomorrow morning will still involve a few butterflies.
i had also applied for another job, through another agency, when i first submitted my details to the current agency. after a few sets of telephone tennis, i finally made contact with the other agency today. the job with them is still available so i've organised to visit this new agent on friday morning. it is always good to have a plan b.
i had a long chat with the senior administrator in my team this evening. although she can sometimes be the bitch from hell, i can understand how stressed she is. she knows that most of our team are looking elsewhere for jobs and she understands why. there is a total lack of support from management and not enough training in the team. being forced to continue backing up the call centre just makes our job harder. apart from myself, i know of two others that are actively jobhunting (one has been for a third interview so it is likely he will get the job), one left last week, another girl leaves in two weeks and our temp girl will finish at the same time. i feel a bit guilty for wanting to leave but i have to look after number one.
now i'll go from bitching about the place to telling you that today i got a $25 voucher as part of the rewards & recognition program - you can earn points from colleagues, management or from positive customer feedback and when you have accrued 25 points, you get the voucher. it's my second one in two years and while i appreciate it, it doesn't make up for the rest of the crap...

a 9 dog day and now i'm off to get some sleep. i have to be bright eyed and bushy tailed tomorrow!

you big pansy!

i spoke to the girl from the agency today. the other job, with the same company as the one i applied for last week, sounds really, really interesting - customer relationship management/database support - i'd get to use my slightly rusty but still useful IT skills... my resumé has been sent and hopefully i'll get another interview. at least i've been there once before so i wont be soooo nervous!

i've been very domestic this week. yesterday, i made some choc-peanut butter fudge - toooo yummy - i have to hide the container at the back of the fridge or it will disappear (and i'm the only person who can be blamed if it gets gobbled up too quickly!) last night i cooked a chicken & vegetable stir fry with chili jam for dinner and have plenty of leftovers for lunches. tonight i whipped up a thai beef salad and followed that with strawberries dipped in melted dark chocolate. it's all because i started flicking through my stash of foodie magazines on saturday. i don't know if this is a good or a bad thing...

in spring, sydney council puts big flower boxes in the main pedestrian areas. there are huge displays of pansies down at circular quay - here are some for your enjoyment!

labour day? not much labouring going on here...

went over to miss e's house last night. we went to the best bottle shop in sydney and got some pink champagne (to celebrate not having to work today!) and bottle of my favourite rosé. we ate take away lebanese food (which was very yummy. i've not had lebanese food for ages), watched tv and had a gossip & giggle session. i love long weekend sundays nights!

i'm having a very lazy monday but i must get away from the computer and do some washing and cooking - so i guess there will be some labour today.

monday madness!
otto says 'Since in this part of the world, we are in the midst of changing seasons, I was inspired to ask the following.......'

Using the letters in the word 'AUTUMN' describe your favorite season.
  • Actually, it's spring...
  • Unlimited blue skies
  • Totally agreeable temperatures
  • Urge to change things in my life
  • More inclined to get out and about
  • Not looking forward to summer
let's go bowling!
no bowling due to the labour day holiday...

the land of the long weekend

sunday

i did lurk about on the whirled wild whatever yesterday but just could not be bothered posting. saturday was not terribly exciting. a mild hangover with no vanilla coke to help. a conversation with friend & colleague, kt, which resulted in a quick visit to the shopping centre for supplies as a burst of energy overtook me and led to me cooking an impossible pie. this was followed by a long term couch sprawl, watching the 2nd series of kath & kim on dvd.

this morning i was up early. met miss e downstairs and we went to the ritz to see 'wimbledon'. despite some shocking reviews, we enjoyed it immensely. paul bettany is a bit of alright and there are a few other cute boys for drooling over. saw a preview for 'bridget jones: the edge of reason' and 'finding neverland' - i'm looking forward to both of these and not just for the perv fest....

met the new tenant in unit 10 this afternoon - he seems very polite and says please and thank you - a welcome change after the yobbos that were in there previously. hopefully his good behaviour will continue...

i have to keep reminding myself that it's a long weekend and when i remember, the dumb grin just takes over

bad news...

i didn't get the job... BUT!!! there is another position in the same company that the agency girly wants to talk to me about... i just have to be patient and wait until tuesday to find out the details. problem is, patience is something i do not possess...

absolutely not spring weather today - 17°C and pissing down with rain. my umbrella blew inside out several times on the way down bent street this morning and will need to be replaced but i got to wear my lovely purple raincoat, so i'm happy.

social club trivia quiz tonight. my team got 2nd prize and i drank waaaaaaaaaaaaaay tooooooo much wine. must go to sleep now...

still grinning after a quick colorado timchat a short while ago. his parting comment made me laugh - thank you!
